Eye Spy: Water Corporation
In 2010, the CBWA Blog is taking a look at localwork that is notable for whatever reason – good, bad, brand new,long-running, campaigns or one-offs.
I like this poster for the Water Corporation. It stands out nicely at a cluttered Mt Lawley subway with its clean and clear solution for a perennial challenge for Perth in summer – saving water.
Quantifying social goals is now a time-honoured strategy (Drop 5, Gofor 2 & 5, Find Thirty etc). This poster shows the target savingand ways to achieve it.
The poster is an extension of the television campaign but for me thisis more memorable. And even if you haven’t seen the TV the message isobvious. As a campaign device, I’ll bet the little frog is a hit withkids and you can’t underestimate the value of them nagging theirparents to do the right thing.
Sure we could nitpick and ask “who will bother to measure how muchthey’re saving every day?” but that’s too literal a reading of it. Itworks as a reminder to be vigilant about water usage.
I also like the media choice. Since AMV used posters in London to makeThe Economist famous I think you can make a case to use outdoor forjust about anything but it’s perfect for this message. Outdoor is theclassic ‘everyone’ medium and saving water is an issue for everyone.
Good message delivered succinctly in an appropriate medium. 4/5.

I agree. Great – everyone can understand straightaway.
did you cast the buckets jacqueline?
Sure we could nitpick and ask “who will bother to measure how much they’re saving every day?”
Or we could nitpick and ask “who wrote this and didn’t get ‘every day’ correct as two words like Martin did?”
Just saying.
@1201 – The only saving grace is that practically no one will get the difference, especially those reading this blog. “It is easy to save 6 ordinary”. What?
Perth, you are incestuously tiring!
