End of the line for Cooch on Transperth
Cooch Creative’s final project for Transperth has finally been released, almost a year after parting ways with their former client.
Following on from their award-winning series of posters, which used nursery rhymes to reinforce the type of behavior expected when using public transport, comes a series of poster-sized comics which have also been compiled and released as HOOT! – a comic book complete with ads, letters to the editor and personals.
Cooch Creative Director, Ron Samuel, said the comics were another way of getting the message across without preaching.
“The main offenders are Transperth’s own customers,” he said. “So we couldn’t point the finger or offend the passengers. We needed to get a serious message across in a light hearted way and the comic format, like the nursery rhymes before them, works very well.”
The comic style was inspired by VIZ, with characters such as “Brendan Bevan and his Badly Behaving Backpack”; “Suzie Hawker – Noisy Talker”; and “Oh My! It’s the Sick Guy” used to reinforce the correct behaviour when wearing a backpack, speaking on your phone and travelling when you’re sick.
HOOT! also includes a homage to the famous MAD magazine, with an illustrated fold-in back cover to further deliver the message.
