Drone film festivals to launch at Emergence 2016

Emergence_2016_BLOG.jpgSome exciting additions to the Emergence Creative Festival program have just been announced with the soft launch of the first Australian Drone Film Festival along with the first international screening of the Flying Robot International Film Festival from San Francisco (USA).

Sunset Cine will screen both the Australian Drone Film Festival (ADFF) and Flying Robot International Drone Film Festival (FRiFF) at Xanadu Winery on Thursday 17th March as part of the satellite event Short & Sharp.

Emergence Creative Festival Event Manager, Erin Molloy said they were looking forward to launching new and innovative content at the festival.

“We love stuff like this, Emergence is about innovating, collaborating and pushing creative boundaries, so having the Drone Film Festivals as a part of the Emergence Creative Festival was something we felt was a natural fit.”

FRiFF Founder and Festival Director, Eddie Codel said he was beyond excited to bring the festival to Australia, with its international debut as part of the Emergence Creative Festival.

“FRiFF is truly an international drone film festival, having received over 150 submissions from 35 countries across 7 categories in 2015. It’s only natural that this selection of the world’s best drone cinema is seen beyond our origin home of San Francisco.

“FRiFF isn’t just about beautiful cinema shot from the perspective of a flying robot. It’s about elevating creativity and the culture around these flying robotic assistants. Drones are changing the landscape of how we live as humans. They are used to track deforestation and wildlife poaching; in search and rescue operations; used for delivering medical aid to conflict areas; used in industry for pipeline inspection and in agriculture to help farmers grow crops more efficiently.

“The future is bright for our flying robotic friends. What better place to start FRiFF’s international journey than the serenity and beauty of Western Australia.”

ADFF Founders Peter Hudson of Sunset Cine and Shayne Thomson of AeroCam said the Australian Drone Film Festival will be an ongoing annual film festival to be screened in multiple city and regional locations throughout Australia, showcasing the best films in multiple categories, all filmed using drone technology.

“Following film submissions and judging each year, a premiere event will be held at Emergence, backed up with a national roadshow of the festival.

“2016 will see the soft launch of the ADFF immediately following the first Australian screening of the Flying Robot International Film Festival (USA) at the Emergence Creative Festival. The soft launch will showcase a selection of local and national drone films with competition & festival details for the full 2017 Australian Drone Film festival.”
