Don’t miss The September Issue

septemberissueanna.jpgNo – not Campaign Brief. The September Issue is a new documentary about American Vogue’s biggest and most important issue of the year. Being the stylish people we are, CB was invited to the media preview of the film at Cinema Paradiso this week.

Inevitably, the focus is on Vogue’s legendary editor-in-chief, Anna Wintour, but it also shows the team around her that puts the magazine together, particularly creative director Grace Coddington.

They work diligently and passionately to meet Wintour’s expectationsbut that’s not easy. $50,000 worth of beautifully art directedphotography is quietly cut by Wintour to shorten a layout thatCoddington is convinced belongs in the issue.

Perhaps the mostresonant comment comes from Wintour’s daughter, who says she doesn’twant to work in fashion because its full of weird people who thinkfashion is life. Hmm…not like advertising at all!

Unfortunately, wedon’t know how it ends. The second reel was apparently suppliedback-to-front by the distributor so we thought we’d suddenly switchedto a post-modern Czechoslovakian movie on SBS before the good folk fromParadiso advised of the problem, and that it couldn’t be fixed quicklyenough to finish our viewing.

That was disappointing because thehalf we did see was an engrossing and at times surprising look at the worldof high-end publishing and the creative process. It will be worthshelling out some hard-earned to see the rest.

The September Issue starts August 20 at Cinema Paradiso.
