Countdown to the 2012 Bullshit Battle of the Ad Bands: One from some Aussie rock n roll legends

Continuing our countdown to the 2012 Bullshit Battle of the Ad Bands with some songs that could/might/probably wont be performed.

For a decade or so from the mid 70s Australia’s pub scene spawned some great rock n roll bands bands like Midnight Oil, Australian Crawl, The Sports, Hunters & Collectors, Mental As Anything, Cold Chisel, Jo Jo Zep and the Falcons and Rose Tattoo.

For a couple of years in there the biggest of them all was The Angels. Driven by brothers Rick and John Brewster’s raw, 12-bar blues inspired guitars, their music was loud, catchy, and always had eminently singable choruses. And those choruses were delivered with gusto by hyperactive singer Doc Neeson, one of the more charismatic front men of the day.

They had a string of hits that were favourites of bogans nationwide – Am I Ever Gonna See Your Face Again? (don’t say it, please), Take A Long Line, Comin’ Down, No Secrets, Shadow Boxer – but after last week’s Rain, what else could we choose but After The Rain?

The best part of this song is the way it builds to the opening riff. It aint particularly sophisticated but neither was their audience, which had packed into the lounge bar, filled up on amber fluid and just wanted a good time. Sound familiar?

So crank it up and get into The Angels’ After The Rain.
