Colliss’s Full-Contact Sudoku rated one of Australia’s greatest books
Cooch Creative writer Mick Colliss’s searing expose of the high-stakes world of international sudoku has been rated as one the great works of Australian literature in the 21st century.
Full-Contact Sudoku tells the story of Colliss’s journey to the sub-continent for the World Sudoku Championships, where he encountered corruption, drugs and shadowy figures, although it got better when he left the airport.
Well of course we made that up, but Full-Contact Sudoku has recently been named as one of the top reads of 2009 by a syndicated News Ltd review of books: “…This is an unlikely, funny, only-in-Australia true story.”
Colliss and three rugby mates had always dreamed of representingAustralia as Wallabies but that dream was destined to remainunfulfilled. However, when they realised Australia didn’t have a teamin the third World Sudoku Championships, they promptly electedthemselves to wear the green and gold and compete against the best fromaround the world in Goa, India.
How did they go? Well…they had the best uniforms. And, judging by the book, the most fun too.

Congratulations guys on your Sudoko team. i set up the Maltese fly Fishing team to compete in the World Championships. There is no water in Malta or trout. So my team is unique. I am the only competitor. As an Aussie with dual Maltese citizenship, I was able to set up a team and compete at an Internatioonal level. Good on us Aussies who show abit of inititiative and go for it.
