Collide: Kicking off with Mixin Conf 2016

Collide_2016_BLOG.jpgThe first ever Collide will be held during the week of Mixin Conf 2016, a new Perth conference aimed at inspiring and bringing together the creative community through learning and collaboration.

The timing of the event will also mark the beginning of the Mixin festivities including workshops and the conference itself, which is now sold out, on the same week.

The event will see an even spread of lightning talks selected from representatives from across the creative community who will have the opportunity to share an insight into their different worlds.

Mixin is taking things a step up by bringing the theme of collaboration to life by hosting this first of its kind event in Perth during the conference’s exciting week of festivities. Collide is uniting communities from the Perth Advertising and Design Club (PADC), the Australian Web Industry Association (AWIA), the Australian Graphic Design Association (AGDA), along with independent community meetup Fenders Perth.

Collide’s concept is perfectly paired to Mixin’s vision and mission, encouraging cross-collaboration and mixing within the local creative communities to promote innovation in Perth.

“The energy on the night is going to be amazing and I can’t wait,” said Patima Tantiprasut, Collide founder and Mixin co-organiser. “Imagine a room full of creative people from diverse backgrounds, all passionate about what they do and all ready to share their experiences. There’s so much that we can learn from each other and it’s only natural that we do – our worlds already intersect and overlap – it’s intense and awesome all at the same time.”

Collaboration was at the core of planning Mixin and the events surrounding. Originally, the Fenders Perth meetup, organised by Mandy Michael (Mixin co-organiser and Lead Front End Developer at Seven West Media), and Port80 Perth meetup (AWIA), hosted by Tantiprasut, were going to have special separate events planned for the week of Mixin. In the collaborative spirit of Mixin, Collide was the perfect opportunity to co-host events and to also invite other creative organisations in Perth such as AGDA and PADC to join.

“Fenders is really honoured to be included in the amazing Collide lineup,” said Michael. “Our aim is to support and educate the web community, so it’s fantastic to see groups like Mixin creating opportunities to bring different organisations together where we can learn from different experiences and perspectives.”

In addition to the local speakers organised including Head of Design at Brand Agency, Daniel Agostino and Dan Bradley, formerly Creative Director at Meerkats and founder of Eliza_, it’s believed some of the speakers from the Mixin Conf 2016 international-strong line up will also be featured on the night.

Ting Sia, Chair of AGDA WA, said Collide was a great opportunity for the greater creative community to come together.

“We often get caught up in our own industry that we forget to check out what everyone else is doing. There is so much inspiration and knowledge to gain as well as creative opportunities and an event like this will help bring that all together,” said Sia.

“The PADC is excited to be involved in Collide. As the title suggests, it is a great opportunity to for the various disciplines that share the digital space to come together and bounce off each other,” added Mark Braddock, President of PADC.

This Mixin hosted event will be held on Wednesday, 26th October at the Claisebrook Design Community n(CBDC) space who are also the venue sponsor for the night. Joining CBDC in making Collide possible will be AWIA, PADC, AGDA and Fenders Perth.

Collide will also be revealing the first look at the Mixin art exhibition, Mixhibition, on the night.

“Collide is like a supercharged meetup, with this one being the first of many, where we can all be inspired by and learn from each other,” said Tantiprasut.
