Celebrate WA is responsible for promoting and organising a program of events for the WA Day long weekend, formerly known as Foundation Day, including the Western Australian of the Year Awards. The events are inclusive of all Western Australians and provide an opportunity to focus on the State’s history, achievements and areas of excellence.

Maria Sioulas has been appointed Partnerships Manager to continue to develop Celebrate WA’s relationships with its major supporters and attract significant new partners for 2014 and beyond. Maria joins the organisation from the West Australian Opera, where she was Marketing and Sponsorship Manager with a successful track record in boosting the opera’s profile, revenue and external relationships.

Nicole Walker has been appointed as Marketing and Communication Manager. She was previously Commercial Manager for the Western Australian Cricket Association (WACA) and General Manager of the Perth Scorchers. Nicole was an integral part of the WACA’s senior management team and oversaw a range of successful programs including building, activating and developing the Perth Scorchers brand and commercial operations and the introduction of the Big Bash League series into the Western Australian market.

Chairman, John Poynton, said that with the WA Day long weekend growing in stature, it is vital that Celebrate WA has experienced staff who are dedicated to developing the organisation, raising its profile and delivering a comprehensive program of events.

“We are the only State that has its own long weekend, which allows us to celebrate the spirit of being West Australians. We want to make sure that Celebrate WA is able to plan and deliver activities that allow West Australians to focus on their collective and individual achievements and areas of excellence.”
