Well done on back-to-back Kats.
I’ve been entering these CB awards for about 12 years now and I’ve never won a damn thing. So I was very disappointed to hear we got up on Saturday night but weren’t there to savour the moment.
For the past five years, Cooch has gone to ADFEST in Thailand and each time, it’s been on the same weekend as the OASIS Ball. This year was no different. We were planning on getting tickets to the ball for the staff not going to ADFEST. I thought Ron was doing it. Ron thought I was doing it.
Lucky we’re in the communications industry.
We’ve apologised personally to the presenter of our Award – Charmaine Moldrich, CEO of the Outdoor Media Association – and explained our situation. She was happy to hear that it wasn’t an intentional no-show. She also mentioned we missed out on a great photo opportunity with her, and she was right. We don’t win bucketloads of awards so the PR would have been valuable. And I believe she wore a beautiful dress and looked lovely.
So on behalf of everyone at Cooch, sorry for not being there to collect what we consider a very prestigious award. We hope everyone enjoyed themselves and congratulations to all the other finalists and winners
Notes for next year’s awards:
• Have awards at a decent time so people are not drunk and/or beyond caring. Giving awards during the meal has the added bonus of shutting everyone up.
• Get the sound system working. Microphones were terrible, there were no speakers at the back of the room and we couldn’t hear a damn thing.
• Have someone stand at the front and tell everyone to shut the hell up BEFORE the awards begin… so we don’t completely miss the first three awards.
We paid a lot of money to wonder what the people on the stage were doing there. It was very frustrating and reduced the prestige of the awards.
303 runner-up for Agency of the Year?
4.57 – It’s very clear in the CB issue I picked up at the ball that Brand were runner up agency of the year.
12.55 – you make good points about the night but I am certain there were some unfortunate glitches that your Oasis committee member may be able to explain (as you “paid a lot of money” I gather you are working at one of the big agencies).
I have been to the last 4 Oasis nights and they have all been fantastic.
Well done to Brownes for all of your finalists. After the Fonterra years, it’s nice to have such an iconic brand back in town.
rare for agency of the year!???…that’s a bit of a joke, surely?
Sci-tech Laser Man? You’re kidding me right? Sometimes I think the judges enjoying taking the piss!
Mick you might want to thank Guy Howlett as well. The idea to use the adshel as a sunscreen dispenser was his.
2.17. Were you there? did you hear the response from the crowd. real laughter from a cynical ad crowd at a genuinely funny spot. It fully deserved it. LAYZZZZZZZZRRRRRRS
6.38am; WTF?
7.30…
Yes, I was there. The crowd was blind drunk by then, so I’d take their ‘real laughter’ with a grain of salt – and possibly another shot of tequila.
