Registrations now open for The Hero’s Journey with script guru Karel Segers – March 5 & 6
WAnimate with the support of ScreenWest is bringing script guru Karel Segers to Perth to present a seminar series on the Hero’s Journey.
In 1949, Joseph Campbell published The Hero With A Thousand Faces, revealing the patterns and archetypes that have populated stories since the dawn of time. That same year, a boy was born who would bring The Hero’s Journey to the movies: George Lucas.
Lucas learned from Campbell and as a result transformed cinema completely. Since then the most successful novelists and filmmakers including George Miller and James Cameron have used these insights to make their stories resonate with billions.
This seminar series helps writers, animators, directors, producers and development people apply the Hero’s Journey as a tool to test new stories and improve existing ones. Learn about story structure, archetypes, arcs and patterns, and make your creative vision the strongest it can be.

Karel Segers is a former international movie buyer who founded The Story Department, the undisputed #1 screenwriting blog in Australia. Among his clients are writers, producers, the Australian Writers’ Guild and government agencies locally and overseas.
Karel headed Programming and Acquisitions at the Digital Broadcasting Co in London, bought films for Europe’s biggest pay-TV Canal Plus and hosted a movie show on MTV Europe. Karel has an outstanding success record both as a teacher and a story consultant. He ranks in the world’s top 10 most influential people on Twitter for screenwriting (@ozzywood) and is recognised as an authority on the Heroís Journey and story structure.
