Bruce Gliddon has left the building

Today Perth Sales Director, Bruce Gliddon retires from Channel Seven after more than 29 years at the Dianella station. He started his illustrious sales career in September 1981 as Sales Executive at TVW-7, moving quickly to Senior Sales Executive, Group Sales Manager and then for six years he has held the role of Perth Sales Director.

“There have been so many changes since I started – but the biggest one is the introduction of digital television – so now we have three channels to look after,” he said.

“The audience for our main channel is still our primary focus and media buyers face a more challenging time when planning and buying television. Clients have had some incredible results from 7TWO and 7Mate and that has been really positive. I have been lucky that Seven Perth has been No. 1 for most of that time – and whilst getting to No 1 is hard staying there is just as hard.”

Gliddon has seen the station change considerably since he started and seen owners change from Robert Holmes a Court to Christopher Skase and now Kerry Stokes.

“When I first started it was with TVW-7 and then there was a series of owners, before we joined the Seven network in 1991 – and that has been the best thing for Seven in Perth,” he explained.

“It has allowed us access to so much information nationally and forming the Seven Media Group (Channel Seven, Pacific Magazines, Yahoo 7 and the West Australian) has been a very exciting part of our business.”

Gliddon will now be available for any corporate golf days; will spend time with his four grand-children and will oversee the building of a holiday home in Mandurah.

He’s long been an icon of the station and going forward we will know it as the post-Gliddon era. His retirement marks the end of a career spanning almost three decades at Seven and the company acknowledges and is incredibly grateful for his contribution over that time. We all wish Bruce the very best on his retirement.”

Gliddon passes on the Perth Sales Director reigns to Damian Hampson, who has been part of the Seven Perth sales team for 12 years.

“Damian will slip very easily into the role of Sales Director,” said Gliddon. “We have worked closely over the past six years when he was my deputy and he is very well respected in the industry.”
