BEAT THE TRANSPERTH QUEUES
December 2 2008, 6:26 am | | 23 Comments
Recent volatile times have led to an unprecedented increase in the use of public transport in Perth. The daily queues at cash ticket machines are leading to congestion and frustration for commuters. The solution, according to this print campaign from Cooch Creative, is that both can be avoided by using a stored value SmartRider ticket instead. The creative team is Ron Samuel and Spencer Battista. Photographer is Alan Myles and digital imaging by Procolor, Singapore.

2 for 2 Cooch. Nice work!
Very, very brave putting this up here. Hopefully people will remember what their mother told them – if you can’t say something nice about someone…
Hey baffled. White and one please tosser.
Lovely work Cooch. This one’s a magnet.
Sal.
Lovely work. And for Transperth!!!??? Looks like they’ve stopped smoking the cooch and are back hard at it.
Oh dear! Well done on the grafitti stuff tho.
Sal, I was trying to be nice. You’re the one flinging insults.
And if you think this is seriously going to win awards, you’re incredibly deluded.
Just getting your coffee now – 1 or 2 lumps of idiotic vitriol?
Very cute.
Baffled, it’ll pick up metal believe me. In fact, you wanna bet?
Sal
I don’t get it.
The pigs are pissed off/being born without slots because no one’s putting loose change into them anymore, right? And that’s because so many people are using their loose change to pay for tickets at cash ticket machines, yeah?
So the message is to buy a SmartRider, keep your loose change and make the piggies happy again?
Really? Am I missing something?
If I’m not, it’s not even close to being a remotely compelling argument. If my logic’s all wrong, could someone please enlighten me? Seriously.
They look cute though.
Let’s not bag people for trying. Transperth has not been buying great work for years, in one of the categories where it should be great
Fair point 5.02. It’s not easy getting work through Transperth. Anyway I quite like this campaign. All of us have done far worse this year.
4.08. I’m glad you said it! If people aren’t using coins because they now have SmartRider, wouldn’t those coins be going to the pigs, hence making them happy? I thought I was the only one confused. Great work on the visual treatment though!

I look at from this way. Because of the smart rider we no longer have to carry money on us for public transport. I don’t know about you but when I start out the day with money in my wallet, by the end of the day it’s been reduced to a pocket full of change which I usually throw into my sons piggy bank.
I think it’s on the mark myself.
Talk about overthinking!
7.01, the piggybank pigs aren’t getting any change, that’s their beef (or ham). It’s flawed logic. If you’re not using your change for SmartRider, you would be adding it to your piggybank.
Nice work. It is a shame, however, that the stories in these ads have run in the Daily Star. Les Corner at the West has been tireless in his support of local advertising. We should be prepared to give a little back.

Where the hell do you work? Messages on hold?
One massive flaw is in the brief: people with smart riders join a large queues at busy stations just to tag off.
I think the campaign is saying something about ALL things with coin slots are becoming extinct. Maybe.
Who cares?
Get your head out of your asses Perth people. Cut it, even nationally, then you might be able to talk like you do, above.
4.00 Chill out dude! We’re just trying to figure out what the premise is behind the campaign. Obviously, you’re not of any help. Now, if I only I could get my head out of my arse and have my morning coffee…
The idea’s got legs. Fucking awesome craft too.
I got it!
Idea: using Smartriders = no need for change / coins = no need for piggy banks.
Execution: When cute things are angry, it’s cool.
Criticism: see previous posts.
Just because you don’t need to use change for your fare doesn’t mean your change will instantly disappear from your wallet. Your change, if anything, will grow and grow in your wallet BECAUSE you don’t use it on fares anymore. Which means you’d have more change to put into your piggy bank.
This idea’s got legs? It sure does. Very very short piggy legs.
Given many people simply glance at ads and don’t think too hard about them the risk is many people will simply end up with a negative perception of Smart Rider (even if only very subtly) as it’s connected to ugly protests, strikes, anti-smartriders and deformed piggies with no slot. The piggies are realy cute so surely this could have easily been done with a positive spin based on piggies so happy they are no longer being broken into for loose change now that people are using SmartRider to avoid the coin machine queues?.
