BATTLE OF THE ADBANDS
August 11 2008, 11:10 am | | 22 Comments
The PADC are reminding everyone that the Bullshit Band night is fast approaching and to write this date down in your diary – August 22nd at the Floreat Hotel.
Doors open at 7pm and the first band will be on at 7.30pm. So far at least six bands are booked including bands from The Brand Agency, 303, Cooch, Rare, Workhouse and the Doug Hampton Allstar Band.
It should be a funny night. Tickets are available from the door.

I don’t get the poster-I’m probably missing something as it’s small on screen-can somebody else explain?
Um…. does anyone understand the poster? I reckon it’d be better if the four speakers were replaced with a pic looking down the barrel of a cannon – shot directly in front.
Who gets this!? should it not be the amp riddled with bullet holes?
I don’t get it which probably means it’s an award winner!
I understand the poster and it’s actually pretty funny. Well done to whoever did it.
If you don’t get it. Think harder.
So who did it?
Marshall
transitive verb
1 : to place in proper rank or position
2 : to bring together and order in an appropriate or effective way
3 : to lead ceremoniously or solicitously
Yes, a simple visual collision probably would have been easier for the illiterate ad types of today to understand.
I get it, it’s meant to be like an ad… instead of the big Marshall logo in the middle of the speaker like it usually is, it’s in the bottom right corner. Tricky.
I’m struggling -I’m not a muso but I’m thinking through my limited knowledge that maybe instead of one speaker there are four and that either means that it’s going to be really loud like an ad or that it will take four people to produce the one sound like an expanded creative team. It’s taken me about twelve hours to come to this conclusion, it will take a judge about twelve seconds to shake his or her head and move on.
Well, I bloody hope 4.32 is right and not 4.01
Either way, posters like this are meant to be a bit of fun and good on the Brand boys for putting in the time. I think it’s fuckin’ brilliant now that I understand it (laughter!).
I think it’s too tricky to work. You’d have to watch a hell of a lot of live music to pick up on the significance of the Marshall logo’s new position. And I’ve not met anyone yet who’s attending the night, who understood this. As they say, the proof is in the pudding.
So no Marketforce band then?
Hmmm Trying a little too hard guys. If the idea is that the logo has been placed in the bottom right hand corner then it should be slightly visible on the amp where the previous logo has been picked off. Mind you this is an ad audience and where’s the fun in making it too obvious hey?
Now that I know what it’s about, it is nice. Who shot it? It’s a lovely pic.
I was convinced I was going to hate your blog Martin but I have changed my mind. One of the great things about it is it has the power to change perceptions. For example who would think that for the past two weeks we would be talking about The Brand Agency and their improved creativity. Through comments and stories you can tell that they are currently the major creative competition to Marketforce because they are being talked about so much. Even this little poster that normally wouldn’t attract a passing glance is suddenly in the spotlight.
Most of the coment around their work has been about whether it’s original and whether people understand it. Being talked about is one thing being questioned is another.
Award is coming up, let’s see what happens then.
“Through comments and stories you can tell that they are currently the major creative competition to Marketforce because they are being talked about so much.”
I would hardly say being caught out ripping off someone else’s work and doing a pro bono that nobody gets quite qualify the Brand as a “major creative force”. Still they have started from a pretty low base. Upwards and onwards
I am surprised Marketforce haven’t entered this competition. After all, it does only have to appear once.
Hilarious 4.13 – Let’s keep up the humour in the comments.
Relax 3.46 – I certainly agree with 11.19 that more people are aware of TBA than before and good for them for their recent good improvements. Dare I say, driven from the top by their brilliant CDs (whoever their names are).
The PADC must be happy as more people are aware of the band night through this posting than via their little email. Maybe the poster will win an effectiveness award?
My goodness, aren’t we all a little insular.
Borrowed ideas. Unrequieted envy.
Look beyond the WA borders, boys.
Bemused,
Non WA
10.47.
“Unrequieted”? That’s a new one to us in WA.
If, by any chance you meant “unrequited”, you would find that envy is non-reciprocal, being itself a product of unrequited love.
Please read your posts more carefully before submitting.
Thank you.
Is that you Ric?
hahaha 9.05. Couldn’t have put it better myself.
