AWARD School 2015: The brief is out today
Five Bar in Mount Lawley was packed out last night with over 50 people attending the AWARD School Information session. They heard from 2015 AWARD School Head, The Brand Agency Creative Director, Craig Buchanan, as well as AWARD School graduate, now Creative at Longtail, Chris Andrawes.
Both shared information about the program, their experiences and tips on how best to answer the application brief. Their tips included:
• Don’t stop at your first thought
• Keep it simple
• Don’t be obscure
• Be original
• Get a second opinion
“AWARD School is a course about ideas, creative thinking & the processes involved in coming up with great ideas & ultimately good ads.” said Buchanan (pictured above with News Corp Australia’s Sharmini Poulsen). “The program has a long history of starting careers. More than 70% of Australian creatives have completed AWARD School including internationally recognised, Matt Eastwood and David Droga.”
If you missed the information night, don’t stress. The application brief is out today and is available at the AWARD School website.
This year’s program is once again proudly supported by News Corp, The Sunday Times and PerthNow.
“We are proud to be a supporter of The Communications Council and AWARD School,” said Jay Morris – Group Sales Director. “This aligns well to our philosophy here at News Corp where we nurture new talent and creatives, as well as supporting the creative advertising industry here in WA.”

About AWARD School
AWARD School is a special course run by AWARD for people who want to become copywriters/art directors in the advertising industry. It’s simply about helping you recognise good ideas, how to judge them & how to find inspiration in them.
To be accepted into the course, each person must submit a folio of work based on the brief set by the co-ordinators of AWARD School. This brief changes each year, but usually consists of writing ads and submitting them in a very basic form – no professional artists required! AWARD School accepts up to 300 students throughout Australasia every year and more than 800 students apply. There are no age restrictions or particular tertiary requirements to be eligible for AWARD School.

Was it cold last night?
CB, you’d better nip this thread in the buds before it gets out of control. Craig, big points to you for doing an outstanding job. The students are lucky to have you. The competition is bound to be stiff but with you there to help tweak their ideas, they will rise to the occasion and someone will stick out from the rest.
I’m speechless
My nips are getting bigger. I need to get a handle on this

“Why do men have nipples? Because God is a woman and she really wants us to enjoy ourselves, that’s why.”
If you’re a tit, you have to find ways to stand out.
