Adelaide move for Ish Davies

A shuffle of senior executives at News Limited following the departure of Nationwide News managing director Alasdair MacLeod has seen The Sunday Times’ managing director, Ish Davies (left), appointed MD of Advertiser Newspapers based in Adelaide.

Jason Scott, currently general manager of North Queensland Newspapers, publisher of the Townsville Bulletin, will replace Davies at The Sunday Times.

Davies joined News 23 years ago in Melbourne as a classified salesrepresentative for The Australian and has held several roles within thecompany’s newspapers.

In 2003 he was appointed managing director of The Sunday Times and hasimplemented the launch of STM, The Sunday Times‘ colour magazine andperthnow.com.au during his six years in Perth.

Davies said “The Sunday Times and PerthNow are very close to my heart.With such a passionate and dedicated team in place we have achievedmuch of the last few years. I wish Jason and the team all the best forwhat I’m sure will be a great future.

Scott began his career as a cadet journalist at the Centralian Advocatein Alice Springs and later became editor of the Darwin and PalmerstonSun before moving to the Northern Territory News as chief of staff,then deputy editor.

He was appointed managing editor of the Centralian Advocate in 1999 andbecame general manager of North Queensland Newspapers, in charge ofnine newspapers including the flagship Townsville Bulletin, in 2003.

“Under Jason’s leadership, and with the help of the strong team he hasbuilt there, the Townsville Bulletin has become one of the mostefficient, vibrant and connected regional newspapers in Australia,achieving continued circulation and increasing market share whileprotecting its classified business better than almost any other paperin the country,” said News Limited chairman and CEO John Hartigan.

Scott said: “I will miss Townsville but I am delighted to have thechance to take over from Ish in Perth where I will have very big shoesto fill but a terrific team to help me.”
