George Patterson Y&R leads the trans-Tasman agency pack with eight finalists, followed closely by Colenso BBDO, Auckland and Whybin/TBWA with seven finalists apiece, and New Zealand’s Special Group with six finalists.

seriously how many times can the Midalia Steel pool ad be rolled out? Can you at least mix it up and change the colour of the water for next year….
CB can you post some pics of the other WA ads beside Pool Fence?
Midalia is like Busweiser salutes or Perth Zoo radio. A great idea that has been recognised once already. You can’t blame the juries – they just judge what they’re given. The people that keep entering the same idea again and again, though. They need to take a good hard look at their motivation
I suspect that will be the last award winning midalia ad we’ll see from adimpact now that drew and neil have gone.
Love the IKEA Xmas tree what about the MF one ‘it’s a steal’ who’s that for?
The Christmas tree one would’ve been so much better if the star had been on a book cover, that was placed on top.
Thanks ‘Ikea said’. The beauty of the star above the bookcase from our point of view is that it is an IKEA product shown in its correct function and able to be illuminated (it’s even plugged in). The fun is in the imagined idea that the books have fallen into the shape of a tree – that in turn is topped off with a children’s star shaped lamp. This ad caught the imagination of many people with photographs of copied examples, even in public libraries being sent into us. Cheers Nige & Nat (IKEA Marketing).
I notice that the Ikea “Seasons greeting” ad has a copywriter credit in the Caxtons Finalist list. As the copy on the ad is “Season’s greetings” plus the price – which the client supplied, I just wonder what the copywriter contribution was. Any ideas?
Thanks for pointing out my work 6.31pm.
Yes, i was in the room.
I wrote the following lines. Happy Christmas. Merry Christmas. Seasons Greetings. Christmas Greetings. We wish you a Merry Christmas. Have a Merry Christmas.
We all agreed Seasons Greetings had the most cut through.
“Here is your Christmas present my darling.”
“Oh, thank you. A flat pack of shelves. Just what I always wanted.”

Creative teams work together to produce ideas. A writer is not simply credited with the words, nor an art director with the pretty pictures. If you work in an agency maybe you should visit the creative department once in a while.
How about an expose on the number of times that pool ad has run over the years.
When was it first in the Caxton comp, 2009?
8.01am
I bet you actually wrote a whole load of terrible puns.
@ creative.
Thanks for the history lesson. Now read this: http://www.scampblog.blogspot.com.au/2012/07/has-bills-big-idea-had-its-day.html
Love this pool fence ad.
So simple and yet so very effective.
i never tire of seeing it.
Bring on the next Caxton comp!
As always, it’s good to see the WA ad industry encouraging each other.
