303Lowe team wins inaugural Adshel Perth Creative Challenge for Rottofest
A team from 303Lowe hastaken out the inaugural Adshel Perth Creative Challenge, held at The Bakery inNorthbridge last night.
21 teams had one hour to work on a brief from Rottofest – the comedy, film and music festival held on Rottnest Island every year.
The 303Lowe team of Mike Sequeira, Melissa Radman, Malcolm MacLean, Helen King and Ross Dungey (LtoR above) came up with a relatively simple visual idea of a man laying on the beach in the foreground with the Rottnest lighthouse ‘strategically placed’ in the background under the headline “Rottnest’s most exciting weekend”.
Said MacLean: “Our team realised that while there are all kinds of technologies available for Adshel sites today, a winning idea for a comedy festival at Rottnest needed to be an attention-grabbing visual that said ‘Rottnest’ and ‘funny’ in one shot. And what’s funnier than a giant phallus at Pinky’s beach?”
Chairman of Judges, Vaughan Sutherland, said the winning concept was one of the few that managed to combine the irreverence of the event with the unique Rottnest location.
The team has won a trip for 2 to the New York Festivals International Advertising Awards. The poster will feature in a campaign of 260 Adshel panels, worth over $200,000, for Rottofest 2012.
The night was hosted by Melbourne comedian Dave Thornton. Adshel’s Peter Charlton, Barry Eggleton and Katie McAllister travelled from Sydney for the event, which was an outstanding success.

It’s reassuring to see a good ol’ fashioned headline/pic concept get up over all that fandangled technology stuff that everyone’s been spruiking! Congrats and well done to all involved.
Congrats team 303 , Just goes to show you can’t beat a bit of good ol’ Benny Hill-esque humour. A big thanks to Adshel for putting on such a great night and nice to see most of the town turning up to have a go and support the event.
A top night all round. Many thanks to everyone who made the event a big success including Martin (CB) & Andrew (PADC/Shed). Rewarding to see such a great turnout from many agencies.
Awesome idea and A1 night. Well done Adshel.
Brilliant, and yes, technology will never beat a good idea.
At least mine’s bigger.
