Brand Agency, 303 shortlisted for EFFIE Awards
The Brand Agency’s ‘The Box’ campaign for Curtin University has been nominated as one of five finalists in the EFFIE’s Best State Campaign category.
Central to ‘The Box’ campaign, which was produced in collaboration with digital agency Longtail, was a USB flash drive that connected year 12 students to an online resource to help guide them through their final year at school. As a result of ‘The Box’ Curtin University increased its market share of school leaver first preferences in WA.
303 Perth’s ‘Player’ launch campaign for Racing & Wagering WA is a finalist in 3 categories.

Do 303 have a pr department? If so, somebody should be getting a rocket up their ass over this one. Seriously
12.04… the 303 PR monkey has yet to be let out of its cage after pretending Dav and Rich spoke in political soundbites last month… http://www.campaignbrief.com/wa/2010/05/303s-new-campaign-for-the.html
Talking of Rich, looks like his Jesus campaign was also nominated for a couple of Effies which you would think would warrant a quick fyi to Martin from the agency.
No FYI needed. We noted ‘Jesus. About Life’ is a finalist in two categories but the NSW Bible Society is a client of 303’s Sydney office, that’s why it’s listed on the EFFIE’s list as being a NSW entry.
But yes, Richard Berney did a fine job on the creative.
The campaign was entered into this year’s Campaign Brief Awards and we had a long discussion about whether it should be eligible or not. A NSW-based client serviced out of the Sydney agency but with creative driven by a local. We left it in and I guess our judges saved us a curly one by not voting for it but it gave us a bit of a dilemma, which we may well have to confront again given 303’s way of operating.
What do you think, should it have been eligible?
And what about if their Sydney-based creatives (like Simon Langley, for example) do work for one of their Perth-based clients? Should that be eligible?
303 Sydney also has a finalist with the Australian Olive Association.

Tricky one CB. Maybe you should put something in your Call for entry along the lines of the PADC CFE which states “If you contributed to a piece of work but aren’t based in WA, we’re sorry but you can’t enter. Then again, if you’re based in WA and worked on something over east or overseas, that’s fine to enter. To receive an award, you must have made a significant contribution to the piece being entered.” Maybe a compromise would be only to allow east coast work to be submitted in support of a Copywriter/Art Director of the year entry – which recognises the individual’s contribution over the agency?
Richard is a Perth Art Director and he is part of the Club. So while he is based in Perth i think it should be eligible
According to this pr piece, it wasn’t even Richard’s idea. http://theinspirationroom.com/daily/2009/jesus-all-about-life-in-nsw/
