North Metropolitan TAFE Advanced Diploma of Graphic Design graduation show ‘First Course’ entertained the Perth design community last week.  The theme of the evening was ‘neon-café’ meets ‘medieval feast’, where graduating students showcased their work to Perth designers, the general public and their families.

Key Perth designers, businesses and associations judged students’ exhibited work and awarded winners in various categories including typography, branding, digital design, advertising and illustration.

Throughout the 12 months of their study, students developed their own YouTube channel, art directed their own photography, and hosted several small side events and exhibitions in preparation for their graduation show.

North Metropolitan TAFE graphic design lecturer, Brendan Hibbert, said that this year’s group of students had been extremely proactive.

“Students this year had four successful submissions to the International Society of Typographic Designers, 18 students partnered with mentors in the AGDA WA ‘Learn the Ropes’ program, four students participated in the Australasian Writers and Art Directors Assocation (AWARD) School, and three students won medals at WorldSkills both regionally and nationally.”

Students connected with key designers and businesses including James Victore, Ball & Doggett, Discus on Demand, Bonfire, Media Super, Chil3, ISTD Conception & Crafting Crew, North Metropolitan TAFE alumni and many more throughout their studies.

“Perth designers have connected with our students, to help shape them into well-rounded, skilled and energetic designers,” said Brendan Hibbert.
