AnyaBrock_PerthNow_BLOG.jpg‘Boldly creative’ is one of the credos of News Corp Australia, so it was fitting that the genesis of PerthNow’s 10th birthday campaign was established at Emergence Creativity Festival in March.

“We first started talking with Guy (Turner, News Corp WA’s Head of Digital) about the PerthNow 10th anniversary project in Margaret River,” said Rod Killick, Group Account Director at Gatecrasher. “We asked whether it should be more about the last ten years, or the next ten years. Guy said neither – it needed to reflect where Perth and PerthNow is right now. That gave a clear focus to the project.”

The campaign will feature 10 of the state’s most exciting artists producing a piece capturing their impression of Perth and WA. Each artist’s creative work and profile will feature on PerthNow’s digital and social properties across the 10th anniversary period starting tomorrow, July 13.

“We wanted a very visual approach,” said Gatecrasher Creative Partner Adam Barker. “We knew visually rich images and video were needed to engage PerthNow’s 300,000+ social followers. Giving ten local artists, each with their own style, a brief to convey what Perth means to them in 2016 was a wonderfully simple idea. The logistics of delivering it were somewhat less simple!”

Turner said the team was happy to receive an overwhelmingly enthusiastic response from all the various artists about the creative idea.

AnyaBrock_PerthNow_BLOG2.jpg“Poppy Lissiman had her creative idea cracked within a day of getting the brief. Anya Brock (pictured) loved the idea of representing WA and Fremantle. West Aussie hiphopper Drapht was gutted he couldn’t make his schedule work, but happily Mosquito Coast were so stoked when we called they decided to write a new song. Everyone involved at PerthNow, Gatecrasher, the artists and the Art Gallery of WA have been 100% positive about Perth, WA and the project.”

In addition to featuring on PerthNow from July 13 to August 1, each artist’s work will also be part of a pop-up display at the Art Gallery of WA in July, including original pieces by Poppy Lissiman and Anya Brock, an installation of giant balloons by Rose Skinner and a large garden swing by designer Mon Palmer.

Several of the pieces will be auctioned at the conclusion of the campaign, with proceeds supporting local charities.
