Transmission resumed for Nine in regional WA

REGIONALTV_BLOG.jpgBroadcast of Channel Nine programming into regional WA resumed on Saturday night after eleventh hour negotiations, which reportedly directly involved Nine Entertainment Co CEO Hugh Marks.

Nine’s programs were off-air for 48 hours after the network and regional broadcaster West Digital Television failed to reach an agreement last Thursday. However programming returned on Saturday evening as the Federal Election coverage got into full swing.

A statement issued by WIN Television and Prime Media Network – joint owners of West Digital Television – on Saturday night said: “West Digital Television has entered into an agreement with the Nine Entertainment Company to broadcast Nine, GEM and GO programming to regional Western Australia. The broadcast of all three signals will resume across regional Western Australia effective immediately.”

The situation was caused by Nine’s decision to switch its regional affiliation from WIN to Southern Cross Austereo nationally, however SCA doesn’t have television coverage in several regional areas, including in WA.
