Mix 94.5 launches broadcast of Dockers and Eagles games in 2016 AFL season
The hallowed turf of Domain Stadium was the venue last Friday for Mix 94.5’s announcement that it will be broadcasting AFL this year.
Andrew Embley, Tania Armstrong, Lachy Reid and Adrian Barich (pictured LtoR) are the station’s first live and local call team, which also includes legendary caller Dennis Cometti. They will be heard across the whole of WA as Southern Cross Austereo’s RadioWest network, Redwave Media and West Coast Radio team up to broadcast every home and away game for both the Fremantle Dockers and West Coast Eagles.
AFL CEO Gill McLachlan said the expanded radio broadcast coverage was good news.
“The AFL is privileged to have our game covered in depth across so many different media platforms and Southern Cross Austereo has been a fantastic long-time partner for our game. It is great news for WA footy fans that all Eagles and Dockers’ home and away games will be live on mix94.5.”
The launch was an entertaining event MC’d by Dean Clairs and former AFL star Luke Darcy, who co-hosts Melbourne’s Triple M Breakfast with Eddie McGuire and Mick Molloy. There was plenty of humour – much of it at McGuire’s expense – but lots of football insight as well.
Mix 94.5 took the Triple M call of the finals featuring the Dockers and west Coast Eagles last year. In 2016 that coverage has been expanded to season-long coverage of Dockers and Eagles games. The move is seen by some as a risk given Mix 94.5’s female skew and the ‘refuge’ it provides for non-football followers during the AFL season.
Mix 94.5’s Weekend* share in 2015 averaged 13.5% and a Cumulative Audience of 309,000.

Happy days! 🙂
Who makes special comments during the game and keeps up to date with stats? He is not listed above, with Cometti and Embley
Wondering if Adrian Barich would like to have a discussion about the SGIO sponsorship from 1987? You may recall I was Executive Chairman back in those days.
