Split Screen facilitates massive production in WA’s south-west for China TV network

Split Screen has just completed facilitating one of the biggest international TV productions to have ever happened in WA .

‘Dad, Where Are We Going?’ is one of the highest rating reality TV shows produced in China with an average weekly viewing audience of more than 75 million people on the Hunan TV network.

The idea to bring the show to WA was instigated by Tourism WA after seeing the hype created when the show was previously filmed in New Zealand. This WA production is only the second time the show has been filmed outside of China.

Split Screen was chosen as the local production company to work on the shoot. Producer Lee Guy-Wallis said it was a challenging but extraordinary opportunity.

“I love a good challenge”, said Guy-Wallis, “But wow – this one will go down in my history books. 180 crew out of China, 45 local crew and only two weeks to pull the final details of the shoot together. The Margaret River Region was chosen as the area, but the actual storylines and precise shooting locations were still being locked down 10 days out from the filming dates. Local talent, props, wardrobe, all the necessary elements to ensure the shoot happened, and meant our team were working in 17 hours shifts to pull it all together, and we did it!”

The final result will be 2 x 90-minute episodes of the high-rating show, so the set up requirements to create this amount of footage was massive.

“The WA crew pulled out all stops and really showed an international television network what our local film crews can achieve. The Hunan TV production crew were massively impressed. I have always known what our team can do, but I have never had to test them to such a great level until now,” said Guy-Wallis. “I just hope this resonates through to other clients on what we can achieve right here in WA.”
