30 from 30. The people who have helped shape the industry and Campaign Brief: Les Corner
For Campaign Brief WA’s 30th anniversary, over the thirty days of June we’re looking back on 30 people who helped shape the industry and us.
The West Australian’s National Sales Manager, Les Corner, is one of the few media reps in town that understands the creative side of the business. In fact, he has a passion for it.
Corner has been a long-term supporter of creativity generally, and of course creative press advertising specifically. He has ensured The West has maintained its strong support of the PADC, most notably with the The West Australian Fellowship, which carries as a prize a trip for two to the Cannes Lions Festival.
Corner has also backed Campaign Brief’s Caxton creative competition for newspaper advertising, which, in our third decade, has launched a few creative careers and fostered some WA’s best press advertising, with the winners going on to dominate the print categories at the PADC and Campaign Brief Awards.
Corner was instrumental in bringing the Caxton Weekend to Broome in 2004 – the one-and-only time it’s been held in WA. In 2006, he was as chuffed as anyone when WA had three national Caxton winners – the state’s most successful showing ever. Going up against the best from the eastern states and NZ, Perth held its own.
For well over twenty years, Corner has worked tirelessly to promote The West Australian as a creative opportunity as well as an effective media buy. A media representative able to talk numbers and creativity with equal knowledge and credibility is very rare indeed. Perth is fortunate to have Les Corner.
Corner’s contribution to the Perth industry has been recognised twice already with his life membership award from the PADC and in 2006 when he was named Advertising Person of the Year at the Campaign Brief Awards/Oasis Ball.
And is there a better lunch companion? Apart from sparkling, lively conversation you know the wine selection will be superb!

Les had no pubes when this pic was taken. One of the nicest blokes in the business. He now has pubes but has had them removed for fashionable reasons.
Les deserves this recognition. He’s certainly made a major contribution to our industry and is also one of the good guys.
I have known Les for 30 years or maybe more, and he has the true spirit of a visionary who leads by example, and walks the talk
Well done on your latest recognition in the advertising industry-keep up the great work!
As Advertising Manager for 12 years, Les steered the paper during some of the most profitable and successful years in The West’s 180 year history. Les coined a phrase that was imbedded into his sales team….Ideas Sell Ads…a concept that along with relationship selling brought many successes
How amazing to see a face from the past and what a career you have had Les
