AdFest1.jpgTrilogy’s Adam Barrell is a delegate at AdFest, one of Asia’s major awards festivals. Here’s his take on day one of the Festival, held in Pattaya, Thailand.

Adfest was designed with the goal to promote creative excellence, showcasing a collection of award winning campaigns from within the Asian-pacific region. I was lucky enough to be offered the chance by Trilogy to travel to Thailand for event and then to also share my rumblings with Campaign Brief.

The Fabulous Four Short Film Awards – When 4 became 3

Started off the day attending the screenings of the Short Films by the Fabulous Four, however 4 became 3 due to an invalid submission.

AdFest02.jpgFirst up was fellow college Adam Gravely’s ‘Karen’, a film depicting the physical and emotional connection evident in today’s society that we have with our phones.

Next up was Keisuke Kuroyanagi with ‘Deads’. Keisuke’s film envisions a world with zombies however this isn’t your typical zombie movie as Keisuke presents the idea of not the living dead but a dead living society.

The final of the now fabulous 3 was Tomoichiro Setsuda with perhaps the most complicated script for ‘A Man’. In my view the film was created with the idea that to create the future we have to create the present.

The winner of The Fabulous Four Short Film Awards will be announced Friday night.

AdFest03.jpgThe Dirty Word

Has advertising become a dirty word? D&AD’s Laura Jordan-Bambach is on a mission to change the public perception of ‘Advertising’ and present the idea that we can create advertising that helps support our community. Laura presented several advertising campaigns, two of which specifically caught my eye Superheros – Superformula to Fight Cancer and Yahoo – Hands on Search.

A Better User Experience

Minah Kim from Cheil gave an in-depth look into how we should be marketing new technology, to give users a better experience. Minah stated that today’s products need an edge not just the fact it is possibly a new technology. Minah also stated that you must first determine and build the ecosystem of the product first before you market, as these factors will determine the positioning of your product and is what separates you from your competitors.

Creativity on Show

The exhibition centre has also been set up to display some of the finest advertising work from the past year. So far I have only walked through the ‘Print’ section, however this section alone took me over an hour. Below I have taken a few photos of some of the work that caught my eye, as at the end of the day advertising is only advertising if someone sees it.
