Bigger better brighter APG Masterclass with Sudeep Gohil, CEO and Founder of Droga5

deep-square-small.jpgEvery client survey seems to put strategic planning, business planning or just ‘thinking’ at the top of their agency requirements wish lists. How many times have we heard ‘showing a better understanding of our business needs’ or ‘demonstrating key insights into our target’ as rationales from clients when switching agencies? Yet strategy planning is the least well defined, most misunderstood, most revered, most feared and most ‘un-costable’ discipline in communications today. At the heart of all creative techniques is the idea that you need to be taken away from your problem to generate fresh ideas.

The Communications Council is bringing to Perth a unique Masterclass hosted by Sudeep Gohil aimed to skill-up attendees so they can more actively participate in and run a variety of workshops, leading to better, brighter and quicker thinking.

When: Tuesday 29 October 2013

Where: Bluewater Grill, Applecross

Sudeep Gohil

Apart from being CEO of Droga5, Gohil is also the Chairman of The Communications Council.

After completing his business degree, Gohil found his way into the mailroom at George Patterson Bates. After a few years at Patts where he worked on AAMI, Energizer, Panasonic and Smith’s Snackfoods, he started his own planning consultancy called Vertigo Communications; a youth-focused planning consultancy with clients including Lion Nathan, Playstation and Virgin Atlantic. Vertigo also produced a trend report specifically for the Australian market called 42.

After selling his company (in retrospect, perhaps a little too soon!) he joined BBH, heading to Tokyo to set up BBH Japan. From there he held a pan European position with BBH London. During his tenure there he worked on Levi’s, Johnnie Walker and Barnardo’s Children Charity.

Gohil then joined W+K as the Global Planning Director on Nike and also led strategic planning for the agency’s other clients including EA, Old Spice, Coca Cola and Starbucks.During his time with W+K, Gohil managed to renew the agency’s belief in planning and made W+K Portland the ‘#1 most desirable place to work’ for planners in the US.

On his return to Australia in 2007, Gohil joined Droga5 as one of the three founding partners of the agency; taking on the Exec Planning Director role before taking the helm as CEO in March 2012. Since launching in Australia, Droga5 has grown rapidly to in excess of 110 staff and is arguably one of Australia’s most successful agencies, with US-based founder David Droga the world’s most awarded creative person. Gohil’s Sydney office modestly boasts clients such as UniLever; Lynx; ING Direct; Woolworths; Telstra; Qantas; Cadbury; Jurlique; The Natural Confectionery Co. to name but a few.
