Kiosk lands three projects in first few weeks
Top Perth creative team Adam Cannell and Tom Wilson’s new creative services company Kiosk, has opened with three new projects already in the works.
“After leaving Meerkats and working freelance around town, we wanted to work as a creative team again. We didn’t want to start an agency or a ‘hub’ so we’ve opened Kiosk as a creative resource for both agencies and clients,” said Wilson. “It’s really exciting to have these three projects come up so quickly.”
One project is a quick and tasty job, another is a bigger branding campaign, while the third is a long term client who’s just about to bring their product to market. They’re the perfect fit for Kiosk.
“We see Kiosk offering agencies a senior creative resource when they’re busy or if they just want some more ideas thrown into the mix. And clients can have big agency thinking and creative ideas, without the big agency invoice at the end,” said Cannell.
It’s a big week next week with work starting on these projects and Kiosk finally moving into their new beachside premises in North Fremantle with digital producer Jon-Paul Broom from worketc.com.au. “We’ve already worked with JP. He’s a smart guy and he knows how loud Adam can get. The fact that he still wants to share space with us says a lot about his strength of character and professionalism.”

Well done boys.
Tom would have to be one of the best blokes in the industry. Good luck! Although I’m sure you won’t need it.
Two of the nicest guys in the business…well done, boys! 🙂
All the best boys! Already got points on the ‘scoreboard’…
Shit hot! Well done lads.
Really? Or was that rarely? I’m not sure, but either way, enjoy the new journey x
Well done guys, all the best
Nice one your good looking roosters
#Goddammit Tom! it’s worketc.com 🙂
I don’t know how many “big” agencies would want to employ a team that feels “big” agencies are over priced. I think they’ll struggle to get work with these “big agencies”. Maybe this article wasn’t proof read?
When you cut out all the unnecessary personnel from the average Perth agency it leaves a remarkably lean bush. Kiosk, Shed, 606 are all proof of this; talented senior creatives who can do the strategy, the account handling and the creative themselves.
Advolution-This is not a new concept. Plenty of agencies start small- then realise they cant do it without an account service person(aka shed, one of the agencies you felt had a shorter bush). If these one man bands are lean, I bet they don’t pass those savings onto the client….
First, I’d like to wish them all the best. Eventually, I think this is the model that will become the norm. Having said that, in the meantime, is there actually enough work in Perth to go around for all of these Sheds, Kiosks, hubs, ad agencies and creative think tanks? When even the traditional ad agencies are fighting tooth and nail over scraps they’d normally turn their noses up at and anything worth any coin at all is going over East, what next? I’d like to think the hubs will take over but that’s just me.
Two questions….
Also, can someone please clarify for me what is the difference between these two guys freelancing together (apparently what they were doing before) and what they’re doing now, besides giving it a formal name and a press release? This is a genuine question, I feel like I’m missing something.
Last random question
Does Adam’s wife like the beard? I wonder what the ladies think about having to kiss them.
Great formal name, great ‘press release’, great beard. ‘6.49’ Sure there’s a lot more to it than that but it looks to me like they’re building their brand, which is after all the business we’re all supposed to be in isn’t it? Good luck to them.
Just ignore all the “Black Noise” guys… and go for it. I know how passionate you both are and I know you’ll do well…. Captain Gerry
Onya lads! Good luck.

Q1. From experience, I’d say when you have a brochure to write or style guidelines to do, you hire a freelance writer or art director, plop them in the corner next to the toilets and let them get on with it. But when you have a big pitch to win or a concept to crack for an important client who is unimpressed with your in-house creative departments’ self-serving agenda and continual rehashing of old ideas – and has told you as much – you go for the shiny new sexy branded senior team.
Let’s face it, most “big agencies” can’t afford to have senior creatives on full time these days. This way they can have senior talent on tap.
Well done guys.
Given how local agencies have treated their senior creatives over the last couple of years, I hope the guys charge through the nose, start overtime rates at 6.01pm, bill every amend and revision and keep the best idea to themselves for when the business comes up for re-pitch. Remember, it was the small mammals that survived when the dinosaurs all died out.
Nicely said , Cape Fear
I agree, it would be awesome if they did this. It would also be an excellent way of never getting another gig with those agencies again, particularly if there’s other talented creatives who produce work of equal value and don’t charge like that (even though they should.) And with so few agencies in town, and enough unemployed creatives scrapping for work, that’s how they get you to play the game. It’s a race to the bottom…
Of course, the other advantage of branding your freelance service is that you then have a marketable product you can approach clients with directly – unlike your anonymous freelance competitors. If you read the press release again, you’ll see this is exactly what the guys are doing. They’ve started a whole new race…
Good luck guys 🙂
