The Australian Writers Guild presents Jan Sardi: ‘Constructing movies’ – this Thursday, May 9
How to you write a good screen story? How do audiences get involved in a movie? What is the difference between narrative and plot? Academy Award nominee Jan Sardi will discuss the essentials of good drama and his personal approach to the craft of screenwriting, including the ingredients of a successful adaptation. Mark Naglazas will host this free talk and Q&A.
Jan Sardi
Jan Sardi is one of Australia’s eminent screenwriters and President of the Australian Writers’ Guild. In 1997 he received an Academy Award Nomination for his screenplay for Shine as well as BAFTA, Writers’ Guild of America, and Golden Globe award nominations. Jan has also won numerous awards for his work in film and television in Australia, including best screenplay for Shine (AFI and AWGIE Awards). In 2003 he wrote and directed the award winning film Love’s Brother, an Australian/UK production. Jan also adapted the hit films The Notebook and Mao’s Last Dancer for the screen. His current projects include adaptations of The Secret River by Kate Grenville, and Remarkable Creatures by Tracy Chevalier.

Well, bummer that I missed that talk! 😉
Wouldn’t have been able to be there anyway… live in the Netherlands. So am wondering, is there anything in writing regarding Sardi’s tips? Has he written any books about screenwriting? I am currently studying ‘Writing Movies’ by the Gotham Writers’ Workshop but it somehow fails to engage me.
Any suggestions?
