OUTinPerth sees positive response to new glossy format magazine
OUTinPerth, Western Australia’s free monthly publication for the LGBT market is enjoying a wave of success following a revamp at the start of the month. With their 135th issue the newspaper has transformed into a glossy compact magazine – a format it will be keeping for future editions.
OUTinPerth editor Graeme Watson (pictured left) commented on the positive reception the new format has received, “The response has been fantastic. We’ve had great comments from both readers and advertisers. The glossier stock allows images to really jump off the page and the colours are just attention grabbing.”
The October edition, the first utilsing the new format, was released at the start of Perth’s month long Pridefest celebration and has been getting a great pick up rate. Watson explains, “At OUTinPerth we keep our distribution in house, so we know exactly how well each pick up point performs. We deliver to over 200 cafés, clubs, supermarkets, clubs and businesses at the start of the month, and then continually refresh stands during the month. Three weeks into October all 10,000 copies of the October edition are out on the street – we’ve had to cancel the top up deliveries for the rest of the month because we’ve just simply run out.”
The current edition features an attention grabbing queer version of The Last Supper featuring well known identities from Perth LGBT scene. The cover was shot by photographer Angelo Di-Benedetto and interviews with Missy Higgins, comedian Tom Ballard, US drag queen Pandora Box and author Benjamin Law.
The OUTinPerth team is not taking a moment’s break though, as they get the next edition ready for its November 6th release. Editor Graeme Watson outlines that the November edition which comes out just after the annual Pride Parade will feature all the photos from the parade and celebratory parties as well some more killer interviews.
