Graham Freeman leaves Trilogy to launch AdZoo

Graham Freeman has left Trilogy to establish his own agency. Freeman launched his new agency – Adzoo – this week with several large Trilogy accounts that he has worked closely on over the past four years.
Confirmed to be joining him at Adzoo are Rick Hart’s Kitchen Warehouse, , KDC, The Blinds Gallery, Complete Group, Peter Stannard and Ultimate Homes.
It is believed Freeman has wanted to start his own agency for some time, having previously approached Trilogy founders Nita Davey and Jo Bulline for equity in the agency.
Adzoo will be based in Havelock Street West Perth.

Sounds like (another) 2 owners who didn’t realise the value and relationships of key staff and now they lose a number of important clients. Key people like Graham work very hard to help build an agency and its client base and don’t get recognised through equity – short-sighted attitude.
Who’s the other 2 owners Standard?
The term ‘key staff’ doesn’t apply here.
Or sounds like someone who was quite happy to shaft people who gave him a job, promoted and believed in him.

You could be right standard or it could also be another case of the grass being Greener on the other side.
From owning and running a business I can tell you there are more important things than equity.
I guess its how you measure the phrase short-sighted attitude.
Considerations to the impact you have on the team who have made you look good servicing these so called important clients. Is it like thanks guys or bye, or come with me and lets leave this place?
I have only met Nita and Jo a couple of times but they have always struck me as good people. I am sure like Graham they work very hard to build a secure place for him and all the staff to work in. Not to mention they would have actually put up capital initially and have to face the music if the business failed

Leave your current employer. Set up your agency. Open the doors. Then court clients. That’s the right way.
Having known Graham, Nita and Jo I would suggest it was more down to a clash in management styles than anything else.
These ladies are tight and any man that thought he would ever get on board with them is just dreaming!
There are always two sides to a story, maybe Karma will be the one to decide who may have been in the wrong here……

If one Guy can leave and half the accounts follow, that doesn’t say much for trilogy.

Im not saying it’s right, but it is a time honored tradition of setting up your own agency, some of Perth’s biggest have been established just like this and chances are the commenters here work for them. It just means agencies need to look after their staff and give them reason to stick around. Clients as well, obviously.
So I guess you are saying if you see something that is wrong, you should not comment on it and that makes it right? Or because Jack did it then its okay for me.
At the end of the day without the full story, the whole thing does not paint a great picture for the clients and for the gentleman involved and that may be unfairly.
I do feel for Trilogy and the staff.
I myself think starting a business is fine but to do so via clients of your existing employee is one of the worst things you can do but like you said a lot of people have done it in the past and somehow people support them.
Leave the man alone. Those accounts are punishment enough

I can’t imagine clients would have left Trilogy without a firm creative offering.
You can’t take a client that doesn’t want to go. Same goes for staff.
Agree, clients don’t jump ship for no reason. Happy clients who are getting good results will stay on board – end of story.
Any word of which staff he will be taking? Especially creative?
Just wondering, if they are unhappy clients would they be not looking at a new agency rather than someone who is setting up a agency based on the arrangement they had been getting.
They are going to be getting the same results are they not? Does not make sense sensible comments.
I know the Trilogy people very well and from my understanding no staff have left with Graham nor would they want too…. enough said.

“Adzoo” sounds likes a prescient address to someone on the verge of sneezing. A mash up of “Atishoo” and “Bless You”. If this venture flounders, Graham should sell it to a pharmaceutical company.

Oh what a shame that everyone has something to say about some really nice people who have been in business for a long time together and have decided to part company for whatever reason that none of us will probably know the real reason. Good luck to Jo and Graham. You are both good people and your destiny is in your hands each for whatever reason.
How can anyone commenting here know the whole story? It’s none of our business. Let’s hope both businesses prosper, clients are happy and Graham finds the creative stars he needs. It is possible.
I have known graham for many years. It is my understanding that he wanted equity. It was not forthcoming. As for taking their clients ???? Didn’t he bring those clients to trilogy in the first place ? Trilogy was a small company when Graham joined them, so was adzoo the day Graham started that. How many staff does adzoo have now ? 11 was it ?
It’s utterly pathetic that this is even an argument. If someone wants to start his own business he will do so. Clients can do whatever the hell they want.
