Warm-up and count down to the 2012 Bullshit Battle of the Ad Bands: Friday August 3

The 2012 Bullshit Battle of the Ad Bands is 12 weeks away. Tickets aren’t on sale yet – we’ll let you know when they are – but so far only two bands have nominated.

Perhaps the others just haven’t got around to letting Ross ‘The Boss’ Tinney know yet. Or perhaps they just need some inspiration, so over the next few weeks we thought we’d showcase some songs that we could/might/probably wont see performed on August 3.

First up, one from the 70s masters of ‘three-chord thrash’.

UK band Status Quo managed to parlay a modest musical talent into a 40+ year career and sales of 128 million records worldwide. Their only UK no.1, Down Down, is probably best known to a younger generation as the Coles jingle but they had 21 other UK Top Tens including the very subtle Roll Over, Lay Down (and let me in) and the song that opened Live Aid at Wembley stadium in 1985, Rockin’ All Over The World.

We could have chosen any of them – they allsound pretty much the same – but we’ll go with Rain. It’s as good as any Quo song and typifies their style: driving bass line, catchy riff, nothing too taxing in the lead break. Perfect!

(Incidentally, bass player Alan Lancaster lived in Perth for a while in the late 80s but according to Wikipedia is now Sydney-based.)
