Double G calls it a day after 22 years and thousands of television commercials
Double G Post Production announced today that it was closing it’s doors after 22 years operating in the Western Australian market. It’s the end of a 35 year era for the founding brothers Drew and Luke Gibson who started together at Taimac Video before starting Double G in 1990. (Drew and Luke are pictured here in 1991)
“Our passions have changed and we’re ready to move on from booking CGI sessions to booking cycling tours in Italy and long boat trips to the Abrolhos,” said Drew Gibson. “We’d like to say thank you to the Perth Advertising Industry and acknowledge the tremendous support we’ve received and the great friendships we’ve made.”
Double G’s last day will be March 31st and following that they will only stay open to ensure all major clients have transitioned their master reels and work to new homes.
“It was a tough start in 1990 but the Perth industry supported us from day one and soon we were able to upgrade our equipment as the world moved to digital production,” said Drew. “Indeed, one of our proudest moments (and scariest business decisions) was the introduction of Flame and CGI. It was a big step up for us and Perth. We have enjoyed investing in cutting edge technology to bring the best possible tools to our fingertips so we could offer the world’s most isolated ad industry every opportunity to help their creative projects.”
Like any business owner, Double G came to realise that the company you build is only as good as the company you keep.
“Our staff and clients have provided us immense enjoyment and pride over the years,” said Luke. “We’re very proud of the fact that Double G has helped a heap of post production artistes find success in the local industry and in the advertising and film industries abroad. Some found fame in Hollywood, some stayed and now run their own shops in Perth. Without them, we couldn’t have stayed at the forefront of the post production industry. Equally, we have enjoyed some wonderful long-term relationships with our agency clients.”

Wow! All the best Drew and Luke. Seems a long time ago that I delivered your first cheque book… Enjoy the next chapter lads.
So long guys, many happy hours were spent sitting on those big comfy couches in a dark little room. Think of us while you’re sipping your champagne on the back of your gigantic yacht π
Cycling tours in Italy…now we’re talkin.
Lost count of the hours I spent in your studios, boys. Like a home away from the office sometimes, and I looked forward to it. You got us out of some nasty scrapes, too, not least at PADC Awards time. Thanks for the work, the laughs, the coffees, the sangas, and the expletives (Luke). All the best for your new life out in the sunlight.
All the best guys. Bx
Love that pic lads, I feel an 90’s party coming on!
As a new comer to a very established club, you made me feel welcome the minute i stepped through the front door of GG. Thank you for the support you showed then and have continued to show up until this day. Long boat trips to the Abrolhos…….sigh.
Is that John Holmes and DIrk Diggler on the bridge of the Starship Enterprise?
Good luck guys and thanks! I did my first TV job with you two back in the Taimac days. Luke you had the best mullet in Perth back then. Lost count of how many times GG got us out of pickle. All the best Craig
PS Luke I’m still waiting for the crays!
All the best guys, you have definitely earnt some time to enjoy.
I’m gratefull for my time there, and for giving me a chance eleven and a half years ago, I will always remember the good times.
Cheers
Thanks so much guys for investing in the best post equipment and facility in WA for so many years. You’ve helped make our work look great and got us out of some tight deadline pickles time and again, all with a smile and a damn fine cappucino to boot. I’ve enjoyed the many days compositing, tweaking and polishing in Flame, watching our collective vision come together, placing the cherry on the dollop of cream on the icing on the cake after long pre pro’s and shoots. Enjoy a well earned retirement quaffing Tuscan Chianti and savouring freshly sliced Abrolhos sashimi fellas. Cheers, Mark.
Drew and Luke
the contribution by the Gibson Brothers to the advertising landscape over the years has been paramount, Well done lads. Luke I will never forget cutting 24 commercials in 24 hours. Different versions for different states,,,, bloody,,, Big Rooster and Chicken Treat and then Vaughan coming in last minute and altering them. I think at one stage you where sleeping on the desk. Memories…. well deserved break boys all the best.
What would the Perth advertising landscape be without you guys? Thanks for the inestimable amount of help you’ve given me over the years. Enjoy the biking and boating.
First time I ever stepped into a post suite it was at Double G. You will be greatly missed guys. All the best.
It was only a short time in comparison to many that have been through the ranks at Double G. But as I had mentioned before itβs been an absolute pleasure to work with and work for the both of you. Cheers for giving me the opportunity to further my career.
Cheers boys. And all the best!
Thanks guys. There’s a lot of people who trade on the reels containing the work that was done at your house.
all the best.
Ahh if only those walls could talk. Well done fellas- you are/were the bench mark in WA .
Enjoy Italy and the sun guys- you have certainly earned it.
All the best
Nigel
PS – Luke you promised me a job 14 years ago! I guess that position is no longer available? π
