Thanks so much for keeping the freak flag flying, Guy (and guys). I, for one, don’t need a lengthy explanation of the bloody coffee beans to know if a drink tastes good or not. I also like my Scitech ads full of fat blokes killing small children with laser vision. So handthumbs up all round.
For the record, though, this Kick business is too sweet and artificial-tasting to compete with the magnificence that is Dare Double Expresso. So I shan’t be buying it a second time. But that, as they say, ain’t no fault of the advertising.
A lot of people I know who are in this target market seem to enjoy the ad and find it quite funny. They are also drinkers of Kick.
At the end of the day it looks like this one has the tick of approval from the consumers, so it’s pretty funny looking at all the ‘ad men’ trolling away on here.
Haters gonna hate.
It’s different, I’ll give it that. Will definitely cut through and get people talking – and that’s what we strive for, right? I just don’t think it suits its target.
Sayid, a coffee drinking donkey, smoking a cigar while getting blown by a siamese cat, would probably cut through and get people talking too…
Doesn’t mean it’s right for the product.
Anyway, the reality is, this commercial is utter rubbish and misses the mark by a long shot.
The client got sold a pup.
Target Audience, do you often refer to yourself as ‘we’?
Now that is hilarious and certainly creepy.
Oh by the way, you are talking out of your arse. This is a crap ad for all ages.
It might however appeal to the chronically stupid.
Well the name “Target Audience” suggests that I speak on behalf of a group of people who are the targeted demographic of this ad, hence the “we”.
And you are right in saying that it appeals to the “chronically” stupid.
This advertisement is just plain old fun whilst herbally medicated.
I’ve got one nagging reservation about the spot…
For me it just seems that the Director was trying way too hard to get the right angles/shots that would clearly identify that this guy has a third hand. Unfortunately, they just didn’t pull it off.
Obviously, they were trying to save money on SFX by not having to do the obvious wide shot, but in the end the direction given to the weird dude is just way too naff.
At best this was a middling idea, but the poor casting/bad performances and bad/clumsy direction make it a complete misfire. But while this ad is bad, the second spot is spectacularly awful.
MF, why draw our attention to this rubbish?
This is a disaster.
Marketing 101 – If you launch a new product under a successful parent brand, i.e. Brownes, leverage off it! Do not have “Saturday night out of the closet night” running around as some super hero expecting it to engage the market, (especially this target market). And if you say “Cut through” one more time im going to vomit. Cut through means nothing unless you can associate a positive sentiment out of it – this just screams “Im trying to be different like Dare” – epic fail – who can relate to this?

Why put this up on the blog? Why?

What are you guys on? You don’t know your arse from your elbow. Sorry this is baaad!
Yeh I’d expect ‘real’ chilled coffee blokes to snot the prick with the black hat on. For Gods sake where are the girls!!
A mash-up of Clockwork Orange and Skittles Beard without the wit!
I’d be pretty embarrassed if I were the CD’s or AD.

Call me a hater if you like, but I honestly think it’s bad. I mean really, really bad.
Doesn’t get much worse than this . Time for a change Brownes?

We find it hilarious and creepy, its just plain on good fun.
If you don’t like it or get it than its not for you and your probably old.
Nearly as bad as the new Road Safety stuff
“If you don’t like it or get it than its not for you and your probably old.”
You don’t have to be old to know when something sucks.

Is it just me or does that caption say ‘Markertforce’ (with an extra ‘r’ before the ‘t’)?
(Thanks Proof reading! – CB)
This really is bad in every way, writing, casting , directing. What a wasted opportunity.

Target Audience, I’m sorry but I’m pretty sure you don’t speak on behalf of anyone but yourself so you can drop the “we”.
Here’s another doozy

So is Take Your Pick from the client-side or a mole from inside MF? Either way, HAH!
hahahahahaha
Thanks take your pick- I enjoyed the ride but that was like watching the fungus grow between the fingers of hand foot man!
It’s hard to imagine anything worse than the previous Kick ad, then this comes along.
At best this was a middling idea, but the poor casting/bad performances and bad/clumsy direction make it a complete misfire. But while this ad is bad, the second spot is spectacularly awful.

@Weird Dude
Take another look- the wide shot is pretty clear.
Surely MF can’t be proud of this rubbish? it’s the sort of work that gives Perth creative a bad name.
Not so weird this is how you do it. Play it straight and let the weird or in this case the beard do the talking.

wow. you all really need to get a life hey.
The ad makes me nauseous – so not in the mood for a drink.
This is a disaster.

‘Keep flying the freak flag’ What a ridiculous comment, unless of course you want them to lose the business.
