Mobile ad network InMobi reveals Asia Pacific ad impressions increased by 4.3 billion in 90 days

InMobi, the world’s largest independent mobile ad network, today revealed its January 2011 Mobile Insights Report – Global Edition, reporting robust growth in mobile phone and data usage in the Asia Pacific region.
The largest global monthly report of its kind unveils that consumers are rapidly transitioning to smart mobile devices as a primary means of consuming digital content.
Commenting on the study, James Lamberti, VP Global Research &Marketing at InMobi, says: “2011 has initiated a massive globalconsumer transition to high-quality smart devices. This trend willdefine the next phase of mobile advertising growth for InMobi withsmart phone impressions becoming the majority of our inventoryglobally.”
Key Asia Pacific findings include:
- The Asia Pacific market grew by 4.3 billion impressions in just 90 days
- Smartphones represented 23% of all mobile ad impressions in the Asia Pacific region in January 2011
- Overall growth in the market shows smartphones (+69% growth) outpacing advanced phones (+27% growth)
- Smartphone impressions increased by over 1.5 billion monthly impressions since October 2010
- Android (+3.4 share points) and iPhone OS (+1.4 share points) both continue to capture market share
- Android is growing at a significantly faster pace with a market share of 5%
- The Apple iPhone continues to be the single most dominant device inthe region with 11% share of all impressions in Asia Pacific

Globally, the total number of mobile advertising impressions grew by arecord 31%, driven by the skyrocketing number of smartphone impressionswhich increased by 5.8 billion during the period.
The Android platform experienced the most aggressive growth in thesmartphone category, with a significant market increase from 4.8% to13.5%, a point change of +8.6. The Android platform now boasts wellover four billion monthly impressions. iPhone OS also continues togrow, but at a slower rate, with share gains +1.7 pts.
