The Communications Council has announced the official launch of the ‘Ken Painter Scholarship’ honouring the former AdSchool stalwart.

Ken Painter (left) passed away in late 2009 after a short battle with cancer, having dedicated 60 years of his life to the industry, including as coordinator of AdSchool in WA and the former AFA (now The Communications Council’s) Graduate Trainee Program.

WA’s leading advertising agencies have come together in support of Mr Painter, creating a Scholarship in his memory.

The ‘Ken Painter Scholarship’ comprises entry into AdSchool’s 11 week ‘Foundation Course’ and a $500 cash bonus upon successful completion of thecourse.

“We are delighted to formally announce the launch of the ‘Ken Painter Scholarship’,” said Alan Taylor, Chairman of The Communications Council WA committee. “Our intention is to perpetuate Ken’s name and legacy and to instil in the next generation of practitioners the values  Ken lived by for his entire career – integrity, honesty, commitment and ethics. If we achieve that, theindustry will be better for it.”

He added “It would be remiss not to acknowledge the participating agencies – 303, AdCorp, Brand, Gatecrasher, Marketforce, Meerkats, Mitchell’s, Rare and Trilogy – for their generosity and ongoing support for this initiative. In recognition of that, the Communications Council has matched their contribution. And of course, we are open to any further contribution from members of the industry.”

The scholarship is open to young Australian residents. Information on the scholarship and how to apply can be downloaded here:

Applications close April 15 and will be judged by a panel of industry experts.
