During weeks commencing December 26, 2010 and January 2, 2011, STW-9 had the highest overall share (0600-2400) against Total People with 31.0%, followed by TVW-7 with 24.0% and NEW-10 with 19.0%. 7TWO and GO! both with 6%, 7Mate and GEM with 5% and ONE with 3%.
The Cricket coverage would have obviously played an integral part in STW-9’s results.TVW-7 won w/c January 9 overall (0600-2400) for Total People with a commercial share of 28.2%, followed by STW-9 with 22.0%, NEW-10 with 19.0%, GO! with 7.8%, 7TWO with 6.7%, GEM with 5.2%, 7Mate with 4.7%, ELEVEN with 4.5% and ONE with 1.9%.
TVW-7 won nine of the top ten rating programmes for Total People which included News, Border Patrol, Today Tonight, Billy Connolly: Journey to the edge of the World and Coastwatch. The week saw the final of Minute to Win it USA and No Leave, No Life. Neither of these programmes made the top thirty for Total People.
STW-9’s top programmes were News and Twenty/20 – Australia vs England, which reached an average audience of 120,000 viewers.
NEW-10 programmes – Monday to Friday’s News and Wednesday Ten News at Five Special Extended Edition made the top twenty.
The younger generation have embraced the Digital stations as evidenced by the share figures. The new Simpsons was the most popular programme with People 18-39 on ELEVEN and Monday’s Family Guy on 7Mate won over the 25-39 year olds.
The top seven positions in the daytime segment were dominated by Ten News at Five, followed by Deal or no Deal (summer) on TVW-7.
NETWORK TEN CHANGES
Network Ten launched their new digital station – ELEVEN on Tuesday January 11th aimed at the 13-29 year olds. Their first week’s results show they’re on target to deliver to this audience. Wednesday night saw good results with The Simpsons reaching an average audience of 326,000 viewers nationally then Neighbours delivering 274,000, followed by Futurama with 269,000. Effective January 24th, Ten will schedule two and half hours of News and a current affair programmes. The night starts with Ten News at Five, followed at 6.00pm with The 6pm Edition with George Negus, and continues at 6.30pm with Ten Local News Extra, followed by The 7pm Project.

The three networks have announced their new programme lineups for 2011:
Seven Network
New episodes of Desperate Housewives, Grey’s Anatomy, Home and Away, Sunday Night, Border Security, The Force, Packed to the Rafters, Criminal Minds, City Homicide, Better Homes and Gardens, RSPCA, Dog Squad and Brothers and Sisters. New series of My Kitchen Rules. First time series of Conviction Kitchen, No Ordinary Family and Winners and Losers.
Nine Network
New episodes of 60 Minutes, Rescue Special Ops, CSI Miami, Getaway, The Footy Show, Farmer Wants A Wife, Kitchen Nightmares, RBT and Customs. New series of Underbelly and This is Your Life. First time series of My Dad Says and Mike and Molly.
Ten Network
New episodes of Glee, Good News Week, House, Law and Order: SVU, Lie to Me, Modern Family, NCIS, NCIS Los Angeles, Talkn’ ‘Bout your Generation, The Good Wife, Bondi Rescue, Undercover Boss and Undercover Boss. New series of The Biggest Loser. First time series of Blue Bloods, Defenders, You Gen 10 and Hawaii 5-0.
TV GROWTH
Industry sources are forecasting 2011 to reflect growth of 3-5% for the TV market. In 2010, growth sat at approximately 17%. An integral element of this growth is, of course, the digital multichannel stations. The market is divided on whether Pay TV will also enjoy a rise.
According to a new estimate from eMarketer Ad spending on Facebook will reach $4.05 billion worldwide in 2011, more than double last year’s $1.86 billion total in global ad revenues. By 2012, worldwide ad spending on Facebook is expected to reach $5.74 billion, up 42% over 2011.
