TVW-7won the week overall (0600-2400) for Total People with a commercialshare of 41.5%, followed by STW-9 with 30.0% and NEW-10 with 28.5%.

TVW-7’sSunday News took the top spot for the second week of the summer ratingsperiod against Total People with an average audience of 205,000viewers. Other programmes to make the top fifteen were News, TodayTonight, Better Homes and Gardens – Summer, Bones (RPT), ChristmasSpecial, Criminal Minds, Border Patrol and Coastwatch.  The AmazingRace – 17 took second position against our two younger demographics andfifth spot with People 25-54.

STW-9’s top programme againstTotal People was Monday’s News with an average of 118,000 viewersfollowed by Tuesday News with 115,000 viewers. The Cricket Show made itinto the top twelve against all our demographics and Top Gear tookseventh position with People 18-39.

The Oprah Winfrey Show: TheSound of Music Reunion, Monday’s Glee (RPT) and Ten News at Five wereNEW-10’s top programmes for the week.  Rules of Engagement grabbed thetop position against People 18-39 and 25-39. STW-9’s The Ashes: SecondTest – Australia vs England averaged 655,136 viewers nationally, and85,000 locally to take eleventh position for the week in the day timesegment. Ten News at Five captured the first six positions followed bySTW-9’s The Cricket Show.

Arecent US study measured the types of TV programmes which helped creategreater awareness for brands. As evidenced by the chart below, Newsbroadcasts topped the list followed by informational talk shows. Whenasked what TV genres actually led to the purchase of a product, Newsled the way again. Another part of the survey investigated whichprogrammes were more likely to be recorded – News was the leastrecorded programme genre. Taking this one step further, one in fivesaid they never fast forward ads in local News programmes compared toonly 5% saying they never fast forward ads in drama and movies.

94.5FMare the number one station with People 10+ for the11th consecutiveyear. The station lost share for People 18-24, 25-39 and 55-64 andgained share with 10-17, 40-54 and 65+. The Bunch were the number oneBreakfast Show.

92.9 remain second in the Perth market andnumber one with People 10-17, 18-24 and 25-39. The Hamish and Andysegment was number one in Drive.

96FM lost share against People18-24 and 55-64, surprisingly, they increased share by 5.1% againstPeople 40-54 to take second position with this demographic. 96FMincreased share across all day parts, except in Breakfast which onlydropped by 0.1%

Nova had a small increase against People 10+.All demographics except People 25-39 increased. They remain in secondposition with People 18-24.

6PR are the number one station forPeople 65+ increasing by 2.4% from last survey. They increased sharewith People 10-17, 25-39, 55-64 and lost share with People 18-24 and40-54. They increased share across all day parts, except weekends, andremain steady in Drive.

6IX gained 1.1% share overall. They increased share with People 10-17, 40-54, 55-64, 65+, and across all day parts.

6JJJgained share with People 10-17 and 18-24 (2.5%). There were decreaseswith People 25-39 and 40-54 with a slight decrease of 0.7% overall.

NOVEMBER RADIO RESULTS

Accordingto Commercial Radio Australia, the radio industry enjoyed an increaseof 9.2% in November. Major Cap Cities performed as follows:

• Sydney – jumped 11.3%

• Melbourne – increased 10.4%

• Brisbane – up 4.3%

• Adelaide- grew 10.6%

• Perth – gained 7.5%

NOVEMBER SMI

Accordingto SMI (Standard Media Index) November 2010 rose just 4.3% from 2009.The figures revealed  the changes by medium as follows:

• Magazines experienced a drop of 12% in bookings

• Newspapers fell 4%

• Digital was up 10%, having slowed from growth of 30% across the July to November period

• Outdoor rose 3%

• Television reported the greatest rate of growth, up 10%.

GOOGLE RESEARCH

Googlecompiled a list of the fastest rising search terms. ABC3 and iPad leadbrands and ad campaigns respectively. The fastest rising organicsearches for Australian brands, those that showed the largest increasein search volume over the past year, were topped by ABC3, followed byJetstar, Bendigo Bank, the NRL and Realestate.com.au. Others in the top10 Australian Brands include Whereis, Masterchef, Grays Online, ANZ andthe AFL.The iPad ad topped the list of fastest rising searches foradvertising campaigns, followed by KFC, Libra Invisibles, Mazda and OldSpice.  Woolworths online shopping was the fastest rising search forretailers and was followed by American retailers Urban Outfitters,Shopbop and Saks Fifth Avenue, DFO South Wharf in Melbourne.
