GRAPHIC DESIGNER (PART TIME) – THE WEST AUSTRALIAN
The West Australian Marketing team is looking for an enthusiastic, qualified and experienced mid level graphic designer with a solid background to join us on a part time (3 days per week) fixed term contract basis to cover maternity leave for a 6mth period.
The successful applicant will be a passionate team member with a skill set covering all aspects of graphic design. Be comfortable with both the creative and conceptual work as well as assisting with all other areas of the studio. You need excellent organisational and time management skills with the ability to manage several projects at once. You must be comfortable liaising with clients and printers and seeing projects through to completion. This role will suit an energetic designer capable of following a brief creatively with an ability to work under pressure and to deadline.
You will assist in the development of graphic design concepts for marketing promotional campaigns and brand needs across the business including promotional advertising and point of sale material.
• Advanced knowledge of graphic design software programs including Adobe Creative Suite CS3, Flash, Dreamweaver.
• Advanced knowledge of press and print production process
• Broad graphic design experience preferably from a newspaper, marketing or advertising agency background

We’re looking for someone who has the ability to turn a blank page into a backdrop which will inspire our clients and Account Managers and act as the crescendo on the proposals we produce.
Since Excel and PowerPoint are common place in our office, as the successful applicant, you will have a strong understanding of Microsoft Office products. You will be able to translate your Adobe Photoshop creations into useable templates for our Account Management teams.
Amongst the palette of programs you are familiar with, Photoshop is key and much of your role will require work in this application. A familiarity with other programs such as Final Cut will be a bonus as there is room for this role to expand to include production of videos for future proposals and presentations.
Due to your high level of administrational skills, you will be able to manage deadlines and prioritise to complete the most pressing work efficiently, whilst still producing documents to the highest standard. With nearly 20 Account Managers and 2 radio stations, there will never be a shortage of opportunities to flex your creative muscles.
Your own sense of drive will stand you in good stead in this role and may well lead to the opportunity to manage others.

A position exists for an experienced graphic designer to join the Features Department at The West Australian. Applicants require formal qualifications and a minimum of three years experience in a graphic designer’s role.
The successful applicant will be responsible for the design and production of editorial liftouts and other material as required.
Thorough knowledge and a high level of skill in Adobe Creative Suite is essential and prior experience in newspaper design would be highly regarded. Outstanding organisational skills are essential as is the ability to work well in a team environment. The position would suit someone with strong conceptual skills, a high level of attention to detail and an ability to meet deadlines within a fast-paced environment.
