Western Power’s 80s Power Ballads

WesternPower.jpgMarketforce has created a classic 80s rock band to spread the word about energy efficiency behaviour this summer for Western Power.

Running in previous years under the ‘beat the peak’ banner, this campaign needed to deliver numerous energy saving tips.

The idea involves an 80s rock band that performs power ballads containing energy saving tips in the lyrics. A power ballad is when high-energy rock bands powered down to appeal to a much wider audience, hence the campaign line ‘Power Down’.

Central to the idea is the website, westernpower.com.au/powerdown,which pays homage to the band, delivers the energy efficiency tips aswell as allowing fans to pledge their intention to power down.  Tocreate content for the website and other online channels, two videoswere produced:

Other channels employed include radio, online banners, press, community events and an in-store promotional partnership withRick Hart.

“It’s been a great challenge, but a lot of fun with many laughs pullingthis together”, said Account Director Brendon Lewis. “What we have isnot only an idea which is fully integrated across multiple channels, but an idea which is delivering pretty mundane information in anentertaining and engaging manner.”
