Marketforce opens ‘The Hothouse’ for Curtin Creative Advertising and Design graduates
Following an idea by Marketforce Creative Director, Andrew Tinning, four of Curtin University’s leading 2009 graduates from the Creative Advertising and Graphic Design and Digital Design courses will undertake an intensive four weeks of work experience within the Marketforce Creative department.
Commencing mid January, Bree Smolinski, Delia Mennell, Russel Winter and Albert Tie will work on a variety of projects under the guidance and mentorship of the Marketforce creative team.
“We are really excited about offering this opportunity to help kickstart these guys into successful careers. Even though it was duringthe last ice age, I remember how it felt being a graduating studenttrying to get that first elusive break. Hopefully the month here atMarketforce will hone their skills, fuel their passions and see them afew steps closer to getting that all important foot in the door”,said Tinning.
Marketforce plans to keep the Hothouse open as much as possible in 2010to help provide practical real life work experiences for WA’s buddingcreative talent.
“I applaud Marketforce’s initiative. Our new graduates will get thebest possible start to their careers. We look forward to many more inthe Marketforce Hothouse”, said Blair McLeish, Advertising DesignProgram Coordinator, Curtin University.

Andrew, can you please elaborate on this with a 20 minute presentation at the next PADCs?
Free work
That’s the way to keep your clients happy. Curtin must be delighted with Marketforce
How could you get any closer to the ‘all important foot in the door’ than being past the door and in the building? Greenhouse. Great idea though.
Don’t understand whyeveryone is so cynical about this.
Whoever said free work – It’s not like the students are being forced to do it.
It benifits the students because – after all – what agencies would hire a new graduate without any experience? Also, they can offer the agency fresh ideas and perspectives.
It would be a pity if Andrew’s immense talent and vision were restricted to one, rather staid and unimaginative old agency, during his time here in Perth. Trouble is, none of the existing agencies currently provide a suitable alternative platform. Time to put your name above the door AT?

But Marketforce minus Andrew wouldn’t really be much of an agency at all
Is this Tinno’s self-nomonation for ad person of the year – well deserved by the way!
Free creative staff to make up for recent losses while at the same time fostering a relationship with a Brand Agency client!
Hate to say it but a bloody good idea.

Hoped you might have choked on a turkey bone or at least left the state.
Because your disgruntled, bitter and envious emotions cloud your judgement it’s left up to the rational among us to point out to you that the 100 or so other MF employees make a helluva contribution to their company and would probably be pretty pissed off to think that their efforts are being completely disregarded.
Andrew is world class and humble enough to acknowledge the worth of his fellow work colleagues.
2:12…
no creatives were ever lost from MF – as far as most are concerned it’s always been the creative pinnacle in Perth. And i don’t think this has anything to do with Curtin as a business decision, it seems to have arisen from a passionate conversation between two very dedicated PADC committee members.
