Campaign Brief’s Top 30 Australian Commercials of the Decade
And what a big decade it was, with so many great Australian ads tochoose from, which helped cement our reputation as a world class centreof advertising excellence. Here are Campaign Brief’s favourite 30 spotsof the noughties – ads that not only satisfied the award judges, buthopefully also made a favourable impression with the Australian public.(Such was the standard of the decade’s best, it was painful leaving outat least another 30 which could have been in here!). This list does notinclude Public Service and Charity ads, which will be compiled in aseparate list over the summer break, as will the top IntegratedCampaigns of the Decade.

Re Carlton Draught – Yes, I liked the British Airways ad too.
Not wanting to stereotype, but a person with no connection to the Industry could construe from this list that if alcohol isnt involved, then Australians arent creative.
As a QC once said, everything said before the word but ….is bullshit
The whole point of the Carlton Draught ad is that you would recognise the B.A connection. It is about taking the piss out of big budget ads like that particular example and is what makes it so brilliant.
Andrew, its a fine line you walk there. So being recognised for ‘immitating’ a great idea is OK then and then taking swags of accolades for it is OK too?
Ah please, the whole industry is self-referential and unoriginal.
It steals from art, culture and itself. In fact, that’s what art and culture do! It’s a little sad when the reference point gets lost and the new is recognised by some as the original – but hey, that’s why the term “old skool” was invented.
Happy Christmas / Festival of the Unconquerable Sun.
7.27 you are missing andrew’s point. It is not imitating, it is satirising. It is taking the piss out of the pretension and self importance that ads like th BA ad had. If you miss this point I don’t understand what you think is good about the big ad.
10.58 Call it what you like there’s an awful lot of credibility built on what is an unoriginal idea. I didn’t miss the point and think that the ad is what it is a knocked off idea that is certainly entertaining and one that probably raised the brands awareness ten fold but its still second hand. Surely when being judged the satirical factor should be considered. I would rather see originality myself. Taking the piss is fine but when judged would not get my vote.
Number 25….
You spelt “bourbon” wrong.
Im not angry CB.. just very disappointed.
10.02 Who cares what a great pair of norks.
