PADC on lookout for creative champions
September 9 2009, 10:23 am | | 6 Comments
There are two awards to be judged and presented again at this year’s PADC awards – Agency Creative Champion and Client Creative Champion. These are significant awards that recognise that great creative work would never see the light of day without people who are as passionate about it as those who sit behind the layout pad and the laptop. The committee will be accepting nominations for both client and agency champ up until end of play this Friday. Email suggestions to admin@padc.com.au

Judging by the timing of this post, there has likely been a lukewarm response from agencies? I would hazard a guess last years format, in which the award was made on the night without any reference who had judged the award or how they had decided the winner had actually warranted it left many bemused. A creative champion, by definition needs to demonstrate how they have promoted and in many cases fought for great creative. This in turn needs to be shown to the audience as part of the presentation.
It’s a stupid popularity vote. How can you say let’s give it to a suit just because they got a client to accept all the ikea campaigns or a one-off ad like burswood. And as for the client one, that’s even harder to judge
11.46, I think the idea of a creative champion is about a proven record over a lengthy period of time. I’m not sure about suits but I reckon Les corner deserves the recognition and as far as clients go ikea and office of road safety are both chances. And I forgot to add Perth zoo no, I didn’t forget
why do we even need this award. what’s the criteria. it’s just a ‘lite’ version of the client of the year award.
Sure Les deserves it but he has already been recognised as a life member of the club and as ad person of the year. also doesn’t the West sponsor this award?
Ikea’s marketing manager has moved on and they have already won the last two client of the year gongs. Ors has also won a few client of the year gongs and Perth Zoo is just a one-off.
8.55. Aren’t you confusing Campaign Brief Awards with PADCs.
7.59.
If it is an annual award, it should be strictly about the championing of creative over the past year, not lifetime achievement. That way it would always retain interest for the suits and clients. The tricky thing about the Client of the Year is that there are many clients out there looking to champion great creative who simply don’t get it from their agencies
