Gordon Dawson Rocks!
Bloody brilliant poster!
Who wrote it?
I’ve got it on my wall!
Well, hopefully Gordon wrote it. Otherwise it’s a load of bullshit.
Best poster I have seen, since I was a apprentice and we had the Chicko girl on the wall of the factory.
Gordon Dawson. One of the great Perth creative director. Clever, funny, interesting and personality plus. Everything Perth creative directors today don’t have.
Look at the current crop today. Boring, boring, boring. Including mine.
TBA: Craig Boring Buchanan
MF: Andrew Boring Tining
303: Lindsay Boring Medalia
Meerkats: Mike Boring Edmonds
Gatecrasher: Adam Boring Barker
Rare: Brett Boring Wheeler
8.18am Can’t argue with that.
8:18 You have a nice weekend too!
Boring post 8:18.
Get over yourself, there’s some really nice people on that list.
Stupid comment.
8.18 you’re right and I blame the state government. How can you not be boring when all they are concerned with is what’s under ground not above ground?
was that picture of the pen shot onto film by a Perth-based photographer?
Great work Steve Brown and Brett Wheeler. And Gordon.
11.32 you are the one that needs to get over yourself and get a sense of humour! Come on, surely you can tell 8.18 had his or her tongue in their cheek when they made that posting!!!
Anyway, 8.18 never said they weren’t nice. Just boring.
Gee, thanks 12.27.
I couldn’t be bothered responding as I put it down to a Gen Y. Guess I’ll have to resort to putting ‘LOL’ or ‘haha’ next time.
8.18. You post on a bitchy anonymous industry blog and the best you can come up with is the same adjective six times? How much more entertaining would it be to have six random adjectives that readers could put against the names as they thought appropriate?
Is it true that Lady GaGa may be performing at the PADC’s?
Great news about Lady Gaga. Well done committee.
Thanks for pointing that out 8.18 just so you know I went out and bought myself a bow tie at Lunchtime-thanks so much for the tip!
Here’s 6 adjectives for you:
curly
shiny
lumpy
round
floppy
droopy
1:22 I think she has a gender test that day. Maybe next year.
The proofreader should also score a mention! We pick up missing commas and we correct spellings like ‘poring’ and ‘licence’ in otherwise excellent copy.
Funny poster. I started on a bromide machine, that was ’98. Old shop. The problem these days tho, is nobody reads.
Even the paper.
If you leave the lid off a Yoken like that you’ll be tripping more than the chromers, so a missed comma is probably understandable.
Nobody reads, huh? Try telling that to JK Rowling, or visit a newsagent and see how many magazines fill the racks these days.
People still love to read.
It’s just that advertising seems to have forgotten that fact.
I’ll second that 3.10pm, and I’m an art director.
Fantastic – the debate we had to have.
I also lament the demise of the typesetting house. Now the Mac is the typesetter and it shows.
Not to long ago I overheard a junior art director complaining about a senior art director (with many years experience) at the agency from which she had just left. She was disgusted he still had his job and dismissively said “he needs to be put out to pasture”. His crime? He asked how to flip an image.
It seems driving a Mac determines the skill of an art director. I know who I consider the ignorant one.
I’ll read the back of a cereal box if there’s no newspaper nearby.
Magvertorials are still prevalent. Check out Money “Magazine” if you want to see some of the best disguised advertising in the world. The whole thing is basically advertorial – right down to the awards. And people buy it (both literally and figuratively). Ha ha.
How come all the craft categories have disappeared from the PADCs this year? Hardly an incentive to set high standards
Careful 9:05, there are very few junior female art directors in town. Especially ones who’ve moved or quit their jobs recently.
Love it.
But back-in-the-day they knew the difference between a hyphen and an em-dash!
Careful of what?
12.09 the craft categories haven’t disappeared, they have just been re named-ART DIRECTOR OF THE YEAR, COPY WRITER OF THE YEAR and PHOTOGRAPHER OF THE YEAR. we did this in an attempt to try and attract some interest. In reviewing the previous few years entries the craft categories were declining so we thought we would try something different and personalise them to see if it sparked any renewed interest. The club wants to ensure that we do everything we can to attract as many entries as possible as we rely on them to keep afloat.
Thanks for clarifying that Andrew. But don’t the titles themselves suggest an overall “creative” excellence rather than a specific craft one? I can think of a few excellent art directors in town who have bags of ideas but no craft skills. And copywriters who can churn out award-winning ads to order but would struggle even to copy the word “long”. The results will certainly be interesting.
Andrew. Any word on Lady GaGa performing at the PADC’s?
I have never been a big fan of clashing ascenders and descenders.
It was written by Steve Brown. Outstanding! GD apparently said… ‘I wish I had written it, all I was asked to do was turn up for the photo shoot!’
