Ray van Kempen to leave 303
303 founding partner and shareholder Ray van Kempen has decided to wind-down his involvement and exit the agency in the near future. The move was announced to staff on Friday but no time-scale has yet been finalised for his departure. It is believed van Kempen’s shareholding will be taken up by other partners or by 303’s Sydney agency management.
Van Kempen, Stephen Wells and Lindsay Medalia founded 303 when they left Marketforce in 1990. He has long been regarded as one of Perth’s best ever art directors.
303 Perth managing director Alan Taylor said at 57 years of age and having worked tirelessly for the agency over the past two decades, van Kempen felt it was time to start winding back his workload and pursue some other interests.

Well done Ray.
I’ve never met you, but I’ve heard heaps of good things.
All the best.
Good luck Ray. A champion of the Perth ad scene.
‘ Best ever Art Directors ‘. I’d second that.
All the best Ray,
You will be missed!
Dear Ray
From a fellow creative
You are a top bloke.
One of the industries nicest people.
Good luck with whatever you decide to do.
Anyone who knows him will understand how much his quiet determination to get things absolutely right will be missed.
All the best, Ray! I know you will be sorely missed at 303.
Well Done Ray,
you were a pleasure to work with, one of the best and nicest people in the business.
All the best,
Mark
They always said Ray was responsible for the selection of the furniture and the receptionists at 303…I hope the standards won’t fall in his absence! Good luck, Ray. I have met you and you really are a top bloke! 🙂
Ray, I have never worked with you however the Perth Ad industry was in my blood through the eighties and nineties , I remember the begining of 303 and your absolute talent and generous of heart has been a force to reckon with.
Good Luck and enjoy your new way of being, feel proud with the legacy you are leaving.
The furniture will remain, but where’d those two bombshell receptionists from a while back go?
9.33am
I’d hazard a guess at least one of them is posting anonymously on the CB blog
9.33 Hey Julia is pretty easy on the eye too. lol
6.52. It’s Giulia.
Hey Damo, Michelle, Mark, Larissa and the Anonymous’…
Many, many thanks for the very flattering posts, I figure I’ll use them as references for my new consultancy- Van Kempen. (And yes, I know it doesn’t quite have the same ring to it as “Host”, “Naked” or “Mother” but I’m counting that the trend of naming companies will go back a few decades to that of using the name of the founders.)
PS Anonymous of August 1… whilst I did have a hand in selecting the furniture, the current 303 receptionist, the very capable (and visual) Giulia, was talent-scouted by Angela Palandri, 303’s amazing Office Manager.
9.32, sorry to disappoint but you’re wrong there!
