Long-term employees to leave The West under re-structuring program

Just on 90 employees at The West Australian have taken up the voluntary redundancies offered by WA Newspapers. Reports put the cost of these redundancies at nearly $14 million. Around 15-18 people within the Advertising department have taken redundancies with some senior, long-term employees including Peter Stevens, Ray Turner, Benita Dowding, Peter Armstrong and Matt Rosich among them.

The redundancy program is part of a major overhaul of The West’s operations. It’s still early days in the restructuring but it is understood former Community Newspaper Group sales manager David Bignold, who joined The West earlier this year, has been elevated to head the sales department and Andrew Sculthorpe will lead the WA agency sales team.
