A snapshot to the other side of Cannes – Tuesday

Tuesday_1.jpgCampaign Brief asked The Brand Agency’s Josh Edge to wander the streets of Cannes tobring you a different perspective to the annual global adfest. Here’s are some of the things that caught Edge’s eye today.

Pictured left– As the weather turns nasty at Cannes, liquid nourishment provides much-needed relief at the Australian/New Zealand terrace catchup at Le Grande.

Below, pic 1: Not the best idea for every delegate, though…

Pic 2: Apparently in an effort to embarrass smokers into abstinence,France has taken to printing pictures of little fluffy bunny rabbits onthe back of its ‘hard-man’ matchboxes. Sacre Bleu!

Pic 3: The first Aussie Lions to rear their mighty manes, in theopening round of PR, Promo and Direct Lions. A few more were spottedlater at Ye Olde Gutter Bar, sitting temptingly on unsturdy plastictables.

Pic 4: Speaking of The Gutter Bar, I did manage to get a shot of itshortly before all hell broke and a few hundred people poured into init until the wee hours of the morning.

Below, pic 1: If the price of a AUS$20 Gutter Bar beer or a AUS$30glass of Rose makes you weep with bitter, G.F.C-fuelled tears, there’salways the 2 Euro bottles down at the local Monoprix. Tre Bien!

Pic 2: Making friends with the corporate high flyers of the advertisingworld. And yes, you can actually order a Le Royale with Cheese. And youcan certainly buy ‘Le Bier’ at Maccas, albeit 1664 in classy plasticcups.

Pic 3: Day two in the Palais and the Gents toilets are already floodedwith dodgy-smelling water. Not fantastic when you’re decked out inHavianas.

Pic 4:  Another plonky little car in Cannes.

Below, pic 1: Much like your local two buck shop slaps ‘Le Chic’ on afluorescent orange starburst to classy up the joint, the French are notadverse to running with any vaguely English-sounding word they can findto bring a sense of the exotic to Cannes.

Pic 2: Best watch out when buying the grated cheese though. Not to mention the huge selection of Gayelord Dairy Products.
