Perth well represented in national Siren Awards
Perth agencies 303, Marketforce, The Brand Agency and studios Brainestorm and Soundbyte are amongst the 26 ad agencies, radio stations and production studios in the running for the best radio ad of 2009 as part of the national Siren Awards, which will be announced in Sydney next month.
303 has three finalists in Single and one in Campaign, Marketforce has two Single finalists and one in Campaign, and The Brand Agency has one Campaign finalist. Brainestorm and Soundbyte each have a finalists in Craft, while Brand Agency ads for Perth Zoo and the RAC produced in the eastern states have scored Craft finalists for Eardrum and The Cutting Edge.
A winner in each of the three categories: single, campaign and craft aswell as an overall winner who receives the Gold Siren, will beannounced at a breakfast on May 8 in Sydney. The winner is decided by apanel of industry experts, known as the Siren Creative Council. Thenational Siren Awards, now in their sixth year, are run by CommercialRadio Australia and are designed to recognise the best radioadvertising in the country. The 2009 Gold Siren winner will beautomatically entered into the Cannes Radio Lions – to be held in Juneand its writer will also win two tickets to attend the festival.
Lastyear’s Gold Siren winner, an advertisement for RACV Financial Servicescalled “Disclaimer”, written by Paul Reardon and Julian Schreiber fromClemenger BBDO in Melbourne, won a Silver Radio Lion at the 2008 CannesAdvertising Festival. The RACV ad was one of three 2008 Sirensfinalists and winners that made it to the radio shortlist in Canneslast year. Paul Reardon from Clemenger BBDO is this year’s Australianradio judge at Cannes.
Commercial Radio Australia CEO Joan Warnersaid the Siren Awards provided a great opportunity to recogniseexcellence in Australian radio advertising and highlight the great workbeing achieved.

Also the success of past winners and entrants atCannes is testament to the fact that great work is being achieved withradio ads in Australia.”
The presentation breakfast will be followedby a one day seminar on how to write and produce good radio ads, called”Getting radio off the Page”. Both the Sirens breakfast and seminarwill be held at Waters Edge, Sydney on May 8. The breakfast will runfrom 7.30am to 9.30am and the Masterclass will follow the breakfast andincludes lunch. Last year Perth had one finalist in single and two in craft. Well done to everyone
