CB AWARDS ENTRIES UP ON LAST YEAR
Entries to the Campaign Brief Creative Awards are 10% up on last year. The eight creative categories attracted around 140 entries overall. Interestingly the TV categories are 40% down on last year while Radio categories are 50% up. There was a healthy response to the newly introduced Online category with seven agencies/companies submitting entries.
Campaign Brief is currently confirming international judges for the awards and we are happy to announce that Dominic Goldman, one of the world’s best interactive creative directors, is going to head our Online judging. It’s a huge coup for CB as Dominic is creative director at BBH London and was recently named as the UK’s top digital creative. You can see more of his great work (including the new Barnardos campaign he lead) on his website.

The 40% drop in TV is no surprise. Most agencies in the city probably decided not to waste their money putting well-thought out, nicely-crafted international-standard TV work up in case the judges for the CB Awards turn out to be the same that judged at the PADCs
Bard, I reckon 303 will still enter their IKEA stuff.
Dear Bard,
What, you don’t think your Galleria Toyota spot was the best TV commercial made in Perth in the last 12 months?
The Ikea tv won at last year’s Oasis ball so this year the category is wide open.
Here’s my prediction – Despite the HBF and ikea moves 303 will clean up in TV, Radio and Print and will steal agency of the year away from Meerkats, Gatecrasher, Brand and MF
The Ikea spots that made the weekly top six on Best Ads – the relationship puns spots, were not eligible for the last PADC Awards as they were completed after the deadline. They are eligible for the CB Awards and should be a genuine contender.
Not as good as the previous Ikea campaign though.
Agency of the Year.
Meerkats.
No chance. Do they even enter such things? They don’t enter creative awards do they? They certainly don’t win any. Agency of the Year to an agency that wins no awards? I don’t think so.
Gatecrasher.
See above.
Marketforce.
As usual, real contenders. Not as strong as previous years award wise, but they picked up IKEA and didn’t lose anything too major.
The Brand.
Outsiders. They had a good year creatively but lost one major account and half their creative team (does anyone know that yet?). So it’s possible, but unlikely.
Rare.
Dark horse. Won a few creative awards, got a few new clients, but don’t seem to be on anyone’s radar.
303. Outsiders.
Good creative, some decent awards, though they did lose HBF and IKEA.
My prediction – Marketforce to win, Rare or Brand as runner-up.
Maybe not better than the previous Ikea, but probably better than most other eligible work. I mean what are the other genuine contenders? It shits on Galleria Toyota.
Marketforce can’t win Bitch-Fighter. They have gone backwards creatively this year. Name one good TV ad they have done this year?
The Brand have won agency of the year several times before and they haven’t won a decent award since 1990. So don’t rule out Meerkats or Gatecrasher.
Rare is an interesting one but I still think 303 could take it out.
12.32….. “Brand hasn’t won a decent award since 1990”? So 4 AWARD bronzes in 2008 don’t count then? Can’t think of any other Perth agency that has done that before.
11.47am.
OK Bryan, we hear you mate
I meant Brand won AoY previously when they never even looked like winning awards. Anyway radio judges give out awards like whoppers at Hungry Jacks!
Mf-four cannes finalists-4 submissions in the work, apart from best of show, the best overall performers at at Padc, the twenty thousand dollar Austereo prize, the West fellowship, the states only caxton, finalist at Adfest, a clio finalist a young guns finalist and a Oneshow merit award. And they beat of the rest of the world to take out the Getty Global cannes comp. No international metal sure but hardly a massive slip and definitely the best overall creative performance in town.
2.16. But they were in radio. Doesn’t really count
Looks like 4.13 is writing the MF entry.
4.13.
Last line. It’s spelt “mettle”, mate
1.46, he’s (AT?) talking about award ‘metal’ you dufus.
1.46,
No, Gold, Silver and Bronze, i.e. – metals, is “metal” not “mettle”.
2.44 & 5.42
Duh. You guys need to check up what “mettle” actually means to find out why it is entirely appropriate. You probably also think erudite is an adhesive
10:28,
Get your hand off it. Some of that blood needs to get to your head.
And just because you can use erudite in a sentence it doesn’t mean your are.
12.48.
An ad hominem fallacy. How very sophisticated.
